Download or read book Mother Warned You written by Erick W. Miller and published by Author House. This book was released on 2011-04-29 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mother Warned You is a violent dose of reality with a Christian message throughout. Adult content, just enough to make it real, also make it interesting. Before you ever get to read it, I want to say that I never had any formal training as a writer. I have heard that a little of the author goes into every character. Im sure that is natural. Teachers also tell you to write about what you know. I did just that. Those are dismal thoughts for me to digest, but, oh well, if you knew me better, youd see me throughout the book. I managed to move about the country so much, that Id be gone from an area before too many got to know me well. Lots of good people only knew me as a roofer or a carpenter. Some only knew me as Snakeman. That was all they needed to know. I kept snakes for many years and still have three. Of course, I like to think of my self as the good guy, basically I am and usually I was. Today, I am for sure. Still, it was too easy to draw on personal thoughts and experience to develop even the most horrible of the bad guys. Every single character in all the stories was patterened after someone Ive crossed paths with in the 55 years Id lived prior to publishing this the first time. Id gotten to know (or be) some of the bad guys too well. Tantrum is a departure from writing norms. The line between good guys and bad guys is only clear due to the truly evil nature of the villians. Cottonmouth and Mikes Place deal with a flexible style of police work that most cops only dream of. Liberal courts stymie the best efforts of good cops. These tales are about how theyd like to operate.

Brilliant and indispensable.' - Stephen Fry 'Finally, a book about depression that isn't a prescriptive self-help manual. Johnston's deftly expresses how lonely and isolating depression can be for sufferers. Poignant and humorous in equal measure.' Sunday Times There are many different breeds of Black Dog affecting millions of people from all walks of life. The Black Dog is an equal opportunity mongrel. It was Winston Churchill who popularized the phrase Black Dog to describe the bouts of depression he experienced for much of his life. Matthew Johnstone, a sufferer himself, has written and illustrated this moving and uplifting insight into what it is like to have a Black Dog as a companion and how he learned to tame it and bring it to heel.

On Parrish Island, a restricted island off the coast of Virginia, is a little-known and never-visited psychiatric facility. There, far from prying eyes, the government stores former intelligence employees whose psychiatric states make them a danger to their own government, people whose ramblings might endanger ongoing operations or prove dangerously inconvenient. One of these employees, former Consular Operations agent Hal Ambler, is kept heavily medicated and closely watched. But there's one difference between Hal and the other patients - Hal isn't crazy. With the help of a sympathetic nurse, Hal manages to clear his mind of the drug-induced haze and then pulls off a daring escape. Now he's out to discover who stashed him here and why - but the world he returns to isn't the one he remembers. Friends and longtime associates don't remember him, there are no official records of Hal Ambler, and, when he first sees himself in the mirror, the face that looks back at him is not the one he knows as his own.

Book Things You Never Knew Or Were Told Not to Believe

Download or read book Things You Never Knew Or Were Told Not to Believe written by Robert L. Price and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Things You Never Knew or Were Told Not to Believe reveals facts about Abraham Lincoln that most Americans do not know and will find hard to believe. It also documents untold facts about our Civil War, American Imperialism, and the biggest con perpetrated on African Americans. It describes a second Civil War that began in 1865 and explains the genesis of public welfare and modern slavery with consequences that have made the black race a perpetual underclass. Author Robert Price documents the current war on black men and its devastating effects on black families. He believes few people know that Lincoln fought to prevent a second Civil War and its tragic lasting sectional and racial hostilities. He traces a clear history of the castration of Congress and the trashing of our Constitution by our Supreme Courts and presidents, who have assumed imperialistic powers. Price cites past and present examples of misused power and force, including the war against marriage by radical feminists and foolish restrictions on personal freedoms by religions and our government. He suggests commonsense measures to reverse the nation's course, regain lost freedoms, reduce class warfare, stop the war on the black race, and remove barriers to good racial relationships and the upward mobility of African Americans.

Book The Primordial Mind in Health and Illness

Download or read book The Primordial Mind in Health and Illness written by Michael Robbins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The universal quest to create cosmologies – to comprehend the relationship between mind and world - is inevitably limited by the social, cultural and historical perspective of the observer, in this instance western psychoanalysis. In this book Michael Robbins attempts to transcend such contextual limitations by putting forward a primordial form of mental activity that co-exists alongside thought and is of equal importance in human affairs. This book challenges the western assumption that knowledge is synonymous with rational thought and that the aspect of mind that is not thought is immature, irrational, regressive and pathological. Robbins illustrates the central role of primordial mental activity in spiritual cultures analogous to that of thought in western culture as well as its significant contributions to numerous other phenomena including dreaming, language, creativity, shamanism and psychosis. In addition to his extensive clinical experience as a psychoanalyst Robbins draws on first-hand contact with Maori and other shamanistic cultures. Vividly illustrated by first and second hand accounts, this book will be of great interest to psychoanalysts, those with a psychological interest in spiritual cultures as well as those in the fields of developmental psychology, cultural anthropology, neuroscience, aesthetics and linguistics.
