Download or read book A Dictionary of Neurological Signs written by A.J. Larner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-12 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first two editions of the Dictionary of Neurological Signs were very well-received by readers and reviewers alike. Like those editions, this Third Edition, updated and expanded, can be almost as well described in terms of what the book is not, along with details about what it is. The Dictionary is not a handbook for treatment of neurological disorders. While many entries provide the latest treatment options, up-to-the-minute therapies are not discussed in bedside level detail. The Dictionary is not a board review book because it is not in Q&A format but could easily serve in that capacity since each entry is a fairly complete snapshot of a specific disorder or disease. The Dictionary is an alphabetical listing of commonly presenting neurological signs designed to guide the physician toward the correct clinical diagnosis. The Dictionary is focused, problem-based, concise and practical. The structured entries in this practical, clinical resource provide a thumbnail of a wide range of neurological signs. Each entry includes: • A definition of the sign • A brief account of the clinical technique required to elicit the sign • A description of the other signs which may accompany the index sign • An explanation of pathyophysiological and/or pharmacological background • Differential diagnosis • Brief treatment details Where known, these entries also include the neuroanatomical basis of the sign. The Dictionary of Neurological Signs, Third Edition, is an indispensable reference for all students, trainees, and clinicians who care for patients with neurological disorders.

Rooks Jr. Distinguished Professor of Neurology and Clinical and Health Psychology and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2003-02-05 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinical Neuropsychology comprehensively reviews the major neurobehavioral disorders associated with brain dysfunction. Since the third edition appeared in 1993 there have been many advances in the understanding and treatment of neurobehavioral disorders. This edition, like prior editions, describes the classical signs and symptoms associated with the major behavioral disorders such as aphasia, agraphia, alexia, amnesia, apraxia, neglect, executive disorders and dementia. It also discusses advances in assessing, diagnosing and treating these disorders and it addresses the brain mechanisms underlying these deficits. A multi-authored text has the advantage of having authorities write about the disorders in which they have expertise. The fourth edition adds new authors and five entirely new chapters on phonologic aspects of language disorders, syntactic aspects of language disorders, lexical-semantic aspects of language disorders, anosognosia, hallucinations and related conditions. This is the most comprehensive edition of this text to date. It will be of value to clinicians, investigators, and students from a variety of disciplines, including neurology, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, psychiatry, and speech pathology.

Neuroanatomy and the Neurologic Exam is an innovative, comprehensive thesaurus that surveys terminology from neuroanatomy and the neurologic examination, as well as related general terms from neurophysiology, neurohistology, neuroembryology, neuroradiology, and neuropathology. The author prepared the thesaurus by examining how terms were used in a large sample of recent, widely used general textbooks in basic neuroanatomy and clinical neurology. These textbooks were written by experts who received their primary professional training in 13 different countries, allowing the thesaurus to incorporate synonyms and conflicting definitions that occur as a result of variations in terminology used in other countries. The thesaurus contains:

Download or read book The Natural History of the Parkinson s Disease in Early Stages written by Benno Schwartz and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2011 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 237 untreated patients with probable Parkinson's disease could be followed 10 weeks up to 86 months after the first neurological examination. The clinical investigation and the estimation of the severity of the parkinsonian symptoms was done every time according to UPDRS. All patients received cranial computed tomography or MRI of the head, neuropsychological tests, and some of them also SPECT investigation with 123I-Ioflupane (DaTSCAN) or IBZM and/or neurophysiological examinations ( tremor analysis ). The study analysed the appearance, presence and course of the main motor symptoms (bradykinesia, rigidity, tremor, postural instability ) of the Parkinson syndrome, looked for the possible influence upon other motor symptoms, and investigated the presence, course and importance of the non-motor symptoms in the early stages of the disease. There were also examinated the diagnosis algorithmus of the Parkinson's disease in the early stages, the estimation of the stages duration, and the clinical criteria of the therapy initiation.
