Book Hyperspectral Imagery

Download or read book Hyperspectral Imagery written by Paul J. Pabich and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hyperspectral Imagery, or HSI, is a sophisticated, versatile intelligence gathering technology that could potentially enable the US military to make significant strides towards improving the preparation for and execution of its missions. Many of the difficulties in bringing the promise of HSI to fruition have very little to do with the technology itself. As will be discussed shortly, HSI technology has been successfully demonstrated in a variety of diverse applications. In point of fact, it is the versatility of HSI that may be hindering its implementation into the mainstream of the U.S. military's intelligence gathering capability. The objective of this paper is threefold. The first goal is to introduce the reader to both the technology itself and the myriad potential applications of Hyperspectral Imagery. The second goal is to realistically examine the challenges that HSI must overcome, specifically in the areas of how HSI fits into the world of joint vision, intelligence doctrine, and the intelligence cycle. Finally, the paper will provide a series of recommendations some focused on organizational issues and others on acquisition issues that will address the majority of the challenges faced by the intelligence community as they endeavor to incorporate an HSI capability into the U.S. intelligence community.

Book excerpt: Unmanned is an in-depth examination of why seemingly successful wars never seem to end. The problem centers on drones, now accumulated in the thousands, the front end of a spying and killing machine that is disconnected from either security or safety. Drones, however, are only part of the problem. William Arkin shows that security is actually undermined by an impulse to gather as much data as possible, the appetite and the theory both skewed towards the notion that no amount is too much. And yet the very endeavor of putting fewer human in potential danger places everyone in greater danger. Wars officially end, but the Data Machine lives on forever. Throughout his career, Arkin has exposed powerful secrets of so-called national security and intelligence. Now he continues that tradition. The most alarming book about warfare in years, Unmanned is essential reading for anyone who cares about the future of mankind.

Book Directed Energy Weapons on the Battlefield

Download or read book Directed Energy Weapons on the Battlefield written by John P. Geis and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several nations are engaging in development and production of directed energy weapons. Recent scientific advances now enable the production of lethal lasers and high-powered microwaves. The current growth and development in this emerging area strongly suggests that directed energy weapons of lethal power will reach the battlefield before 2010. Since proliferation of lower power laser weapons has already happened, it is likely that proliferation of high power or high energy weapons will occur as well. This paper expands on this development and posits potential impacts on a plausible future battlefield, developed in part from the Alternate Futures of AF 2025, where all comers deploy lethal directed energy technologies. From these impacts, which span doctrine, organization, force structure, and systems design, this paper recommends changes to better posture the United States for this potential future.

Book Homeland Security and the Coast Guard

Download or read book Homeland Security and the Coast Guard written by Arthur C. Walsh and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Coast Guard was effectively positioned to accomplish its missions and functions before the September 2001 terrorist attacks. The terrorist attacks reshaped the United States national security strategy, and this caused the Coast Guard to reprioritize its mission requirements elevating Homeland Security to be on par with the Coast Guard's number one priority, search and rescue operations. To effectively carry out the Homeland Security mission, the Coast Guard must leverage existing and developing technologies. These technologies will improve efficiency across the full spectrum of Coast Guard missions. While these technologies are not cheap; costs for research, development, and application can be greatly reduced by partnering with other agencies. To leverage these technologies to improve Homeland Security effectiveness, a process for evaluating and infusing emerging technology within the Coast Guard must be developed. This process must then be institutionalized within the Coast Guard's corporate structure.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Still and moving images are crucial factors in contemporary political conflicts. They not only have representational, expressive or illustrative functions, but also augment and create significant events. Beyond altering states of mind, they affect bodies and often life or death is at stake. Various forms of image operations are currently performed in the contexts of war, insurgency and activism. Photographs, videos, interactive simulations and other kinds of images steer drones to their targets, train soldiers, terrorise the public, celebrate protest icons, uncover injustices, or call for help. They are often parts of complex agential networks and move across different media and cultural environments. This book is a pioneering interdisciplinary study of the role and function of images in political life. Balancing theoretical reflections with in-depth case studies, it brings together renowned scholars and activists from different fields to offer a multifaceted critical perspective on a crucial aspect of contemporary visual culture.

Book BattleSpace of Mind

Download or read book BattleSpace of Mind written by Michael Joseph McCarron and published by TrineDay. This book was released on 2024-02-29 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nazi's never surrendered and planned their 4th Reich using neurocognitive weapons. Going underground their technology made it's way to S. America, the Soviet Union, the United States, among other places. We all are bound by the new rules of corporate fascism, long planned by Himmler, and his main strategy for a 4th Reich, financial control. Are we all just living in a computer-controlled information battlespace continued from World War II? This book dissects the matrix of control used by advanced military industrial powers; it breaks down the technology bit by bit so you have an understanding how technology is being used in a battle for your mind. I address these issues from a veteran's insight as a former Signal Intelligence specialist and with some background in the Intelligence Community, I bring forth countermeasures to this control, showing you how you can safeguard your mind from these attacks. Countermeasures that are not available anywhere in the commercial world, yet without them you will be easy prey for these directed targeted pulse modulated attacks first used by the Nazis.
