Book excerpt: This book is a significant companion text to the existing literature on continuum theory. It opens with background information of continuum theory, so often missing from the preceding publications, and then explores the following topics: inverse limits, the Jones set function T, homogenous continua, and n-fold hyperspaces. In this new edition of the book, the author builds on the aforementioned topics, including the unprecedented presentation of n-fold hyperspace suspensions and induced maps on n-fold hyperspaces. The first edition of the book has had a remarkable impact on the continuum theory community. After twelve years, this updated version will also prove to be an excellent resource within the field of topology.

Book Foundations of Genetic Programming

Download or read book Foundations of Genetic Programming written by William B. Langdon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is one of the only books to provide a complete and coherent review of the theory of genetic programming (GP). In doing so, it provides a coherent consolidation of recent work on the theoretical foundations of GP. A concise introduction to GP and genetic algorithms (GA) is followed by a discussion of fitness landscapes and other theoretical approaches to natural and artificial evolution. Having surveyed early approaches to GP theory it presents new exact schema analysis, showing that it applies to GP as well as to the simpler GAs. New results on the potentially infinite number of possible programs are followed by two chapters applying these new techniques.

Book Paradigm shift towards a spiritual worldview

Download or read book Paradigm shift towards a spiritual worldview written by Franz Günter Leicht and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the middle/ end of 1993 I have been grappling intensively with questions about our existence. This book is the result of my long-term study, with which I have tried to inspect our current worldview - the materialistic worldview. It shows that the sciences have come up with answers that question their own assumptions and ideas about this world. E.g. the world-famous physicist Stephen W. Hawking said that it is not really possible for physics to clarify whether the material world is a real world. According to the latest findings in physics, the material world can also be an imaginary world. I'm investigating this question in detail and come to the conclusion that we need a new worldview. This is the spiritual worldview. This new worldview clearly states that there is a non-material spirit that is responsible for the material world. What this means for each and every one of us is revealed in this study.

Book Studies in Topology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nick M. Stavrakas
  • Publisher : Academic Press
  • Release : 2014-05-10
  • ISBN : 1483259110
  • Pages : 673 pages

Download or read book Studies in Topology written by Nick M. Stavrakas and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies in Topology is a compendium of papers dealing with a broad portion of the topological spectrum, such as in shape theory and in infinite dimensional topology. One paper discusses an approach to proper shape theory modeled on the "ANR-systems" of Mardesic-Segal, on the "mutations" of Fox, or on the "shapings" of Mardesic. Some papers discuss homotopy and cohomology groups in shape theory, the structure of superspace, on o-semimetrizable spaces, as well as connected sets that have one or more disconnection properties. One paper examines "weak" compactness, considered as either a strengthening of absolute closure or a weakening of relative compactness (subject to entire topological spaces or to subspaces of larger spaces). To construct spaces that have only weak properties, the investigator can use the various productivity theorems of Scarborough and Stone, Saks and Stephenson, Frolik, Booth, and Hechler. Another paper analyzes the relationship between "normal Moore space conjecture" and productivity of normality in Moore spaces. The compendium is suitable for mathematicians, physicists, engineers, and other professionals involved in topology, set theory, linear spaces, or cartography.

Book Surfing through Hyperspace

    Book Details:
  • Author : Clifford A. Pickover
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2001-05-17
  • ISBN : 0199923817
  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book Surfing through Hyperspace written by Clifford A. Pickover and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001-05-17 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do a little armchair time-travel, rub elbows with a four-dimensional intelligent life form, or stretch your mind to the furthest corner of an uncharted universe. With this astonishing guidebook, Surfing Through Hyperspace, you need not be a mathematician or an astrophysicist to explore the all-but-unfathomable concepts of hyperspace and higher-dimensional geometry. No subject in mathematics has intrigued both children and adults as much as the idea of a fourth dimension. Philosophers and parapsychologists have meditated on this mysterious space that no one can point to but may be all around us. Yet this extra dimension has a very real, practical value to mathematicians and physicists who use it every day in their calculations. In the tradition of Flatland, and with an infectious enthusiasm, Clifford Pickover tackles the problems inherent in our 3-D brains trying to visualize a 4-D world, muses on the religious implications of the existence of higher-dimensional consciousness, and urges all curious readers to venture into "the unexplored territory lying beyond the prison of the obvious." Pickover alternates sections that explain the science of hyperspace with sections that dramatize mind-expanding concepts through a fictional dialogue between two futuristic FBI agents who dabble in the fourth dimension as a matter of national security. This highly accessible and entertaining approach turns an intimidating subject into a scientific game open to all dreamers. Surfing Through Hyperspace concludes with a number of puzzles, computer experiments and formulas for further exploration, inviting readers to extend their minds across this inexhaustibly intriguing scientific terrain.

Book From Web to Workplace

Download or read book From Web to Workplace written by Kaj Grønbæk and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kaj Grønbæk and Randall H. Trigg present a set of principles for the design of open hypermedia systems and provide concrete implications of these principles for issues ranging from data structures to architectures and system integration, and for settings as diverse as the World Wide Web and the workplace. In this book Kaj Grønbæk and Randall H. Trigg present a set of principles for the design of open hypermedia systems and provide concrete implications of these principles for issues ranging from data structures to architectures and system integration, and for settings as diverse as the World Wide Web and the workplace. The principles, which cover both hypermedia system processing and data structures, reflect results from decades of hypermedia research, including the popular Dexter hypertext reference model and the authors own extended object-oriented version of the Dexter model. One important principle is the notion of links as first-class objects outside the data. Emerging systems such as HyperWave, Microcosm, and Devise Hypermedia apply this principle to extend the capabilities of the Web. The authors also discuss the management of incomplete and dangling links, time-based media including video and sound, support for collaboration and shared hypermedia structures, worldwide distribution, and integration of third-party applications in open hypermedia systems.
