Book Hypersonic Lateral and Directional Stability Characteristics of Aeroassist Flight Experiment Configuration in Air and Cf4

Download or read book Hypersonic Lateral and Directional Stability Characteristics of Aeroassist Flight Experiment Configuration in Air and Cf4 written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypersonic lateral and directional stability characteristics measured on a 60 deg half-angle elliptical cone, which was raked at an angle of 73 deg from the cone centerline and with an ellipsoid nose (ellipticity equal to 2.0 in the symmetry plane), are presented for angles of attack from -10 to 10 deg. The high normal-shock density ratio of a real gas was simulated by tests at a Mach number of 6 in air and CF4 (density ratio equal to 5.25 and 12.0, respectively). Tests were conducted in air at Mach 6 and 10 and in CF4 at Mach 6 to examine the effects of Mach number, Reynolds number, and normal-shock density ratio. Changes in Mach number from 6 to 10 in air or in Reynolds number by a factor of 4 at Mach 6 had a negligible effect on lateral and directional stability characteristics. Variations in normal-shock density ratio had a measurable effect on lateral and directional aerodynamic coefficients, but no significant effect on lateral and directional stability characteristics. Tests in air and CF4 indicated that the configuration was laterally and directionally stable through the test range of angle of attack. Micol, John R. and Wells, William L. • Publisher : American Institute of Physics
  • Release : 2003-05-19
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 1118 pages

Download or read book Rarefied Gas Dynamics written by Andrew D. Ketsdever and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2003-05-19 with total page 1118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in these proceedings were peer reviewed. The RGD Symposia are highly inter-disciplinary and encompass all aspects of rarefaction and non-equilibrium phenomena in gases. Rarefied flow phenomena include the mechanics and physics of low density gases and the analysis of flows which take place on a spatial scale comparable to the mean free path of a gas. Topics covered include: Kinetic theory and transport theory; numerical methods including direct simulation Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics; gas-surface phenomena; nano- and microscale flows; molecular beams, atom and molecular optics; clusters and aerosols; external flows including space and vacuum technologies; plume flows; hypersonic flows; molecular collision dynamics; relaxation processes; ionized gas flows; physics of the space environment; plasma processing; experimental techniques; diagnostics including laser induced fluorescence and electron beams; applications. With the increase in space activities and microfabrication capabilities, new themes have emerged including rarefied hypersonic flows, non-equilibrium gases, plasma processing, nano- and micro-scale flows at relatively high pressures, along with parallel and hybrid computational developments. Because the RGD Symposia are recognized as the principle forum for the presentation of recent advances in this field, it is a must for engineers and scientists in a variety of specialties.

Book Aerosol Sampling

    Book Details:
  • Author : James H. Vincent
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2007-04-04
  • ISBN : 0470060220

Download or read book Aerosol Sampling written by James H. Vincent and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-04-04 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive account of the important field of aerosol sampling as it is applied to the measurement of aerosols that are ubiquitous in occupational and living environments, both indoor and outdoor. It is written in four parts: Part A contains 9 chapters that describe the current knowledge of the physical science that underpins the process of aerosol sampling. Part B contains 4 chapters, which present the basis of standards for aerosols, including the link with human exposure by inhalation. Part C contains 7 chapters that cover the development of practical aerosol sampling instrumentation, and how technical designs and methods have evolved over the years in order that aerosol sampling may be carried out in a manner matching the health-related and other criteria that have been proposed as parts of standards. Finally Part D contains 6 chapters that describe how a wide range of aerosol sampling instruments have performed when they have been applied in the field in both occupational and ambient atmospheric environments, including how different instruments, nominally intended to measure the same aerosol fraction, compare when used side-by-side in the real world. The book draws together all that is known about aerosol sampling, for the benefit of researchers and practitioners in occupational and environmental health and all other fields of science and engineering where aerosols are of interest.

Book Hypersonic Flow Theory

Download or read book Hypersonic Flow Theory written by Wallace Hayes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypersonic Flow Theory presents the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, focusing on the hypersonic flow theory and approaches in theoretical aerodynamics. This book discusses the assumptions underlying hypersonic flow theory, unified supersonic-hypersonic similitude, two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies, and circular cylinder. The constant-streamtube-area approximation, streamtube-continuity methods, and tangent-wedge and tangent-cone are also deliberated. This text likewise covers the similar laminar boundary layer solutions, bluntness induced interactions on slender bodies, and free molecule transfer theory. The dynamics of hypersonic flight or hypersonic wing theory, magnetohydrodynamic theory, or any developments involving treatment of the Boltzmann equation are not included. This publication is intended for hypersonic aerodynamicists, students, and researchers conducting work on the hypersonic flow phenomena.
