Stanza 3, for choir, is in canon with slight melodic alterations at cadences. The organ reduces to manuals only and the trumpet is tacet, creating a quieter mood. Unison men sing stanza 4 focused on the hope of the cross. Unison choir and congregation conclude the anthem with stanza 5, set "maestoso "with full organ and trumpet. The choral parts are hymnlike in range and rhythm. The one-octave melody set in E-flat fits all vocal ranges and is well suited to the trumpet. The trumpet part uses simple rhythms and may be played by a competent high school student. The organ accompaniment fully supports the voices representative homophonic hymn writing. An alternate harmonization appears with stanza 4. A reproducible page for congregation is included in the score. A separate trumpet part is also included. Performance options include singing without trumpet or congregation.
