Book Public Health and Hygiene

Download or read book Public Health and Hygiene written by William Hallock Park and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 890 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Public Health and Hygiene: In Contributions by Eminent Authorities The writers Of this book, holding the above opinions, believed that there was need Of a volume in which the most important phases Of hygiene in relation to public health would be presented in a practical way by specialists actually devoting themselves to the subjects treated bv them. The writers have kept in mind that the book is intended for public health Officials, physicians and medical students, and each has therefore tried to make his section as practical as possible and to utilize oto the full his own personal experience. For this reason it has been impractical in most instances to give credit for the original sources of information embodied in the articles. No attempt has been made in this volume to treat the subjects of public health law and administration as these do not fall Within its scope. Other subjects more or less related to public health have been omitted because of the necessity of drawing the line somewhere in order not to increase too greatly the size of the book. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hygiene: Specially Intended for Those Studying, for a Diploma in Public Health This little book is an attempt to epitomise the views of accepted authorities and the most recent work in the huge subject of Hygiene. It is really a carefully edited collection of the notes used by the authors for teaching purposes at University College. Those sections dealing with purely practical subjects have been cut down to make room for more theoretical material, and it is hoped in consequence that the manual will prove useful for rapid revision of d.p.h. Examination work. A good many references to literature will be found in the text, and a list of standard books is inserted on p. 389. Grateful acknowledgment is now made for the assistance given us by these works, not only in the somewhat strenuous task of pre paring candidates for the various Public Health Diplomas, but also in the writing of this Synopsis. We are indebted to the publishers for permission to reprint various diagrams from Notter and Firth's Theory and Practice of Hygiene, and Hamer's Manual of Hygiene. Known under the various current names of Sanitary Science, Public Health or Hygiene, this subject involves an acquaintance with such diverse sciences as physics, chemistry, geology, engineering, architecture, meteoro logy, epidemiology, bacteriology and statistics. To these, strictly speaking, may be added the study of the law or those legal enactments which concern the sanitary well-being of communities. Book First Book in Hygiene

Download or read book First Book in Hygiene written by William Otterbein Krohn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-17 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Book in Hygiene: A Primer of Physiology In these lessons for young children simple language is used in the presentation of such facts about the structure of the body and its functions as are necessary for clear and definite knowledge of the general laws of health, including the effects of alcohol and narcotics. This book is for the use of pupils just beginning to learn something of the care the human body requires in order to insure the full enjoyment of health. The value of a primary book upon any subject depends both upon the language used and the varied forms of appeal to the child's mind, in order that his interest may be aroused. In this book there are few complex sentences. There is, also, such frequent alter nation in story, written exercise, and observation, picture, memory, and reading lessons that the subject-matter cannot become trite. The lessons are so logically arranged, and so pedagogically co-ordinated, that every sentence, every ques tion, every picture, every poem, every written exercise, forms a vital part in the presentation of hygienic law as an educational whole, in a form most readily comprehended by the child. Anatomy, strictly speaking, is a science the study of which requires the more mature mind of the advanced high school or college student. Only such basal facts of thebody's structure are here presented as are necessary for a clear understanding of the laws of health. Book Bacteriology and the Public Health Classic Reprint

Download or read book Bacteriology and the Public Health Classic Reprint written by George Newman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-08-09 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bacteriology and the Public Health Though nominally a third edition of Bacteria in Relation to the Economy of Nature, Industrial Processes, and the Public Health, this is, speaking generally, a new book. Several new chapters have been added, and the whole has been enlarged and revised. The book is an attempt to set forth a simple general statement of our present knowledge of bacteria, especially as they are related to the public health. Theoretical and practical text-books of bacteriology abound, but as a rule they deal largely, and rightly so, with laboratory methods and technique. The general student of hygiene and the medical officer of health require, however, an elementary book in which, whilst ample laboratory facts are recorded, the subject is viewed broadly and particularly as it concerns the practical everyday problems of health and preventive medicine. This book is aimed to meet that requirement. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The New Public Health

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The New Public Health: The New Public Health and Tuberculosis To abolish any one race of disease germs is far easier than to destroy some much larger things. Thus to abolish flies means not only kill ing all flies, indoors in all houses everywhere. In all stables everywhere, in and around all dwell ings everywhere, but also throughout all fields and forests. Mountains and valleys everywhere. Because flies are hardy outdoor beings as well as indoor beings. They can breed and flourish al most anywhere. Where any kind of food, even in vanishing quantity, is to be had. Moreover, they can move of their own volition with promptness and despatch. Have quick eyes and quicker wings to escape designing enemies. And in a thousand ways can take care of themselves. Download or read book Public Hygiene Vol 1 of 2 written by Thomas Stewart Blair and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Public Hygiene, Vol. 1 of 2: With 158 Illustrations The proceedings of the annual conferences of state and territorial health officers with the United States Public Health and marine-hospital Service have developed so many points of friendly difference regarding various sanitary procedures that the present author has been led to institute a per sonal investigation of public hygiene from the standpoint of a seasoned gen eral practitioner of medicine and which investigation embraces a wide area of this country. The decision has been reached that public hygiene has developed too much as a specialty and needs the tempering conclusions of the Whole body of the medical profession. Such conclusions must result from a careful comparison of laboratory and clinical data and no one class of men are so fully qualified to weigh them as is the class to whom this volume is especially addressed. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Science of Hygiene: A d104-Book of Laboratory Practice for Public Health Students This book is intended for the use of students who are working for a diploma in public health; and it is hoped that they will find it useful not only before their examinations, but afterwards, should they happen to work again in public health laboratories. When I was working for my D.P.H. I found the first edition of Dr. Pakes' book more valuable than any other text-books on laboratory work: the arrangement of the subject matter was simple and concise, there was no unnecessary overlapping, and what the Author had to say he said plainly and directly. I have tried, in this new edition, to attain the same standard of excellence. All the practical laboratory work, apart from bacteriological methods, required by D.P.H. students, is included in this volume; and no effort has been spared to make the book complete. Many modern text-books have been consulted; but nothing has been merely transferred from these. The first edition of this book contained chapters on physics, bacteriology, and vital statistics. It was felt, however, that such subjects were better treated in other, and necessarily larger, books; and that much of these sciences could hardly be considered as laboratory work. For these reasons, no part of this volume is devoted to these subjects. On the other hand, many additions have been made, and much of the text has been re-written.
