Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of the Metallic Elements provides a concise yet comprehensive discussion of the structural principles of metallic elements. The book also provides tables that layout the data concerning the more common metals and their compounds. The text first covers the general information about the metallic elements, such as their physical properties, chemical properties, occurrence, and extraction. The subsequent chapters detail the elements and their compounds in context to their structure, and position in the periodic table and in the electrochemical series. The book will be of great use to researchers and practitioners of chemistry and chemical engineering.

Book Hydrogen Materials Science and Chemistry of Metal Hydrides

Download or read book Hydrogen Materials Science and Chemistry of Metal Hydrides written by Michael D. Hampton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September, 1999, with the generous support of NATO, scientists from 18 different nations gathered in Katsiveli, Yalta, Ukraine at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Hydrogen Materials Science and Chemistry of Metal Hydrides to present their research and to discuss world energy problems and possible solutions, interactions of hydrogen with materials, the role of hydrogen in materials science, and the chemistry of metal hydrides. High level and highly professional presentations were accompanied by a great deal of discussion and debate of the issues from both fundamental and global perspectives. The result was a large number of new collaborations, new directions, and better understanding of energy and materials issues. The research presented at this meeting can be found in this volume. These papers range from global perspectives such as the new vision of energy and how hydrogen fits into that future, to reviews such as a look at nickel hydride over the last 40 years, to very specific current research. A large number of papers are included on hydrogen and materials. These papers include articles on properties such as superconductivity, diffusion EMF, magnetic properties, physico chemical properties, phase composition, and permeability as a result of the interaction with or incorporation of hydrogen. Also included are papers discussing the use of hydrogen as a processing or alloying agent. The use of hydrogen in the synthesis of battery electrode materials, composite materials, and alloys is also presented.

Book excerpt: Hydrogen is the most widespread element and one of the building blocks of life. First appearing when the Big Bang created the universe, hydrogen is now part of human technologies that could change the future. People have used liquid hydrogen to send astronauts into space and hydrogen gas to drive families to the store. In this informative book, we'll explore the first element in the periodic table, looking at its properties and finding its hiding places. From our bodies to the Sun, hydrogen is everywhere.

Book Compounds of the Transition Elements Involving Metal Metal Bonds

Download or read book Compounds of the Transition Elements Involving Metal Metal Bonds written by D. L. Kepert and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compounds of the Transition Elements Involving Metal-Metal Bonds focuses on compounds of the transition elements involving metal-metal bonds. Emphasis is on metal-metal bonds in coordination compounds and organometallic complexes, halides, and oxides. Factors that influence the formation, stability, and properties of such compounds, as well as their application in various fields of chemistry and physics, are discussed. This book is divided into four sections and begins with a classification of metal-metal bonds and some of the physical and chemical methods used to study them, including X-ray crystallography, magnetic susceptibility and electron spin resonance, nuclear spin resonance, Mössbauer measurements, infrared and Raman spectroscopy, visible and ultraviolet spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, electrical conductivity, electrochemistry, and chemical reactivity. Factors influencing the strength of metal-metal bonds in metals and compounds are also examined. The remaining sections deal with metal-metal bonds in coordination compounds and organometallic complexes, halides, and oxides. This monograph will be a useful resource for inorganic chemists.

Book Titanium Compounds Containing Hydrogen Nitrogen and Other Non metallic Elements

Download or read book Titanium Compounds Containing Hydrogen Nitrogen and Other Non metallic Elements written by G. P. Luchinskii and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With hydrogen, nitrogen, its analogues, carbon, silicon, germanium, and boron, titanium forms compounds which are unique in that their composition is not principally determined by valence-stoichiometric correlations. The compounds to be considered here form limited solid solutions. Such a partially Berthollet character, and also some of the properties of these compounds, show that the internal chemical bond is similar to a metallic one. Titanium has the ability to form compounds of this type with hydrogen (hydrides), nitrogen (nitrides), phosphorus (phosphides), arsenic (arsenides), antimony (antimonides), bismuth (bismuthides), carbon (carbides), Silicon silicides, germanium (germanides), and boron (borides). Mixed compounds (for example the compounds of titanium with nitrogen and some other element) are similar in character to the ones listed above. Such mixed compounds are amides, imides, halonitrides, carbonitrides, etc. Phase diagrams and reactions are discussed.
