Book Dynamics of Hydrocarbon Migration

Download or read book Dynamics of Hydrocarbon Migration written by Xiaorong Luo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-03 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the authors' research findings on the dynamics of oil migration, research methodologies, insights and applications in petroliferous basins. It studies the behaviors of oil migration in porous media through physical experiments and numerical simulations, explores the mechanism of oil migration and effects of migration process, and then establishes a migration modeling method by coupling the source, driving forces and carriers. The new method can be used to estimate the amount of migrated hydrocarbons and then predict the location of possible hydrocarbon accumulations in different parts of a basin. This approach is useful for resources assessment and prediction of the distribution of hydrocarbon accumulations. An example utilizing this methodology is presented to study the dynamics of migration and accumulation processes in the southern slope of Dongying Depression in Bohai Bay Basin in China. The book appeals to scientists and professionals working on petroleum prospecting as well as faculty and students in petroleum geology.

Book Fluid Inclusion Studies

Download or read book Fluid Inclusion Studies written by Guoxiang Chi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid inclusions are samples of paleo-fluids entrapped in minerals and can provide indispensable information about the compositions of the fluids, and the temperature and pressure conditions of the host mineral formation. The principles are well established and generally easy to understand; however, many researchers underestimate the complexities of the subject and make some common mistakes in data collection and interpretation. On the other hand, some researchers overestimate the difficulties and uncertainties in practice and tend to downplay the usefulness of fluid inclusions. Fluid Inclusion Studies aims to help readers overcome these problems by providing a comprehensive analysis of the foundational principles and demonstrating how these principles should be followed in practice, through examples of study methods and applications. This book is a powerful tool in the field of the Earth science. Fluid Inclusion Studies aims to provide a practical guide for beginners of fluid inclusion study and includes chapters that highlight the diverse applications of fluid inclusions in a wide variety of geologic settings and processes. - Includes down-to-earth discussions of common pitfalls in fluid inclusion studies allowing scientists to avoid mistakes in actual studies - Features a problem-oriented approach that makes it easy for scientists to pinpoint problems and solutions - Includes various applications of fluid inclusions, from mineral and oil–gas deposits, through magmatic–hydrothermal, sedimentary– diagenetic and metamorphic systems, structural analysis, to environmental studies

  • Pages : 210 pages

Download or read book From Source to Seep written by M. Lawson and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrocarbon systems, by nature, are a complex interplay of elements that must be spatially and temporally aligned to result in the generation and preservation of subsurface hydrocarbon accumulations. To meet the increasing challenges of discovering hydrocarbon resources, it is essential that we advance our understanding of these systems through new geochemical approaches and analytical developments. Such development requires that academic- and industry-led research efforts converge in ways that are unique to the geosciences. The aim of this volume is to bring together a multidisciplinary geochemical community from industry and academia working in hydrocarbon systems to publish recent advances and state-of-the-art approaches to resolve the many remaining questions in hydrocarbon systems analysis. From Source to Seep presents geochemical and isotopic studies that are grouped into three themes: (1) source-rock identification and the temperature/timing of hydrocarbon generation; (2) mechanisms and time-scales associated with hydrocarbon migration, trapping, storage and alteration; and (3) the impact of fluid flow on reservoir properties.

Book excerpt: Frontiers in Geofluids is a collection of invited papers chosen to highlight recent developments in our understanding of geological fluids in different parts of the Earth, and published to mark the first ten years of publication of the journal Geofluids. The scope of the volume ranges from the fundamental properties of fluids and the phase relationships of fluids encountered in nature, to case studies of the role of fluids in natural processes. New developments in analytical and theoretical approaches to understanding fluid compositions, fluid properties, and geological fluid dynamics across a wide range of environments are included. A recurrent theme of research published in Geofluids is the way in which similar approaches can be applied to geological fluids in very different settings and this is reflected in the diverse range of applications of fluid studies that are included here. They include deep groundwater flow, hydrocarbons in faulted sedimentary basins, hydrothermal ores, and multiphase flow in mid-ocean ridge systems. Other topics covered are geothermal waters, crustal metamorphism, and fluids in magmatic systems. The book will be of great interest to researchers and students interested in crustal and mantle fluids of all sorts.
