Can Sultan battle his way to victory and take down all the dirty politicians, secret occultists, and family demons that stand in his way? Only a trip into The D.A.D.D.Y Complex will reveal the truth... (But yes, the hero this franchise is named after has a good chance of succeeding.)

Book The Spirit of a Fighter

Download or read book The Spirit of a Fighter written by Vannead Horn and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-10-21 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE SPIRIT OF A FIGHTER is a story about a person who was born in one of the poorest countries in the world, Cambodia. In fact, since the very first day of his life, he was not only condemned to be a kid living with a poor family in a poor country, but a kid who was victim of the cold war of the World Powers, the civil war and the genocide perpetrated by his own people, the Khmers Rouges in their famous Killing Fields. In this respect, in 1978 when he was only 20 years old, he was the sole survivor of his loving family of seven. But he, himself escaped from Cambodia and went to France in 1981 with his wife and 6 month-old baby boy. He became citizen of his new adopted Mother Land and started working there, first as a gardener, then as an engineer, and in 2004 he immigrated to the United States of America. In his new land of freedom and dreams, he continued to work as Engineer while his wife operated a Donut shop as the principal investor. In fact, the book provides details about the personality of a boy who did not want to accept his unlucky destiny by being born in the wrong place at the wrong time. As such, by this book, he wants to show the whole world how such a very poor kid could fight and manage his life from being bullied by his peers in his home country, and how he could survive the Killing Fields of the Khmers Rouges. Certainly by his own discipline, and aided by a sense of freedoms joy, he sought not only to succeed, but to excel by getting a Masters degree in engineering while in France. A degree he used and helped his three children to understand, love and work hard to be awarded the same degree. In such a spirit, I, Vannead HORN, the author of this book who has lived in three different continents, would just like to share my story in which I thoroughly describe how love from my family, despite different and tragic experiences, encouraged me to grow, survive and excel in life and built in me a character that was joyous and successful. This power can be found in any family which is nourished in love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the use and development of man's symbolizing capacities-those qualities that make him distinctly human. Dr. Whitmont describes the symbolic approach to a dream, which takes into account a symptom's meaning in reference to an unfolding wholeness of personality. He then presents the view that the instinctual urge for meaning is served by the symbolizing capacities, and that this urge has been repressed in our time. In the field of psychology, this symbolic approach is most fully exemplified by the theories of C. G. Jung. The author's contribution includes many differentiations and speculations, especially concerning the problems of relatedness.

Book excerpt: Fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Mariana Zapata and Ilsa Madden-Mills will enjoy this fun and flirty football romance by a USA Today author. Heiress Charlotte Davis has pulled some impulsive stunts in her twenty-seven years. Ranking right up at the top? “Buying” at auction the quarterback of her brother’s precious football team, the Baltimore Blaze. In her defense, the event was for charity. Besides, she owed the guy one. He’d rescued her from a situation even more dire years before—right before he broke her heart. After a dismal season, Noah Hudson’s reputation with the fans and the media is circling the drain. Getting “bought” by a notorious tabloid princess wasn’t exactly the shot in the arm he was hoping for. Especially since the same woman badly bruised his ego when she ghosted him years ago. But when the two share a mocking kiss in front of the cameras, a feeding frenzy is ignited among football’s talking heads. Suddenly, the Blaze are winning games and women around the world are all over social media cheering them on. So what if it’s a bunch of Charlotte’s faithful fans buying up Noah’s jersey? If their influence keeps him as the team’s starter, he can work with that. When a vindictive sports reporter begins to spread malicious gossip about Noah and Charlotte, however, the two are forced to face their past mistakes and, just maybe, build a future together. This second chance novella can be read as a standalone. It takes readers back to Baltimore where they’ll reconnect with their favorite Blaze players and their families.

Book Reading My Father

Download or read book Reading My Father written by Alexandra Styron and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-04-19 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PART MEMOIR AND PART ELEGY, READING MY FATHER IS THE STORY OF A DAUGHTER COMING TO KNOW HER FATHER AT LAST— A GIANT AMONG TWENTIETH-CENTURY AMERICAN NOVELISTS AND A MAN WHOSE DEVASTATING DEPRESSION DARKENED THE FAMILY LANDSCAPE. In Reading My Father, William Styron’s youngest child explores the life of a fascinating and difficult man whose own memoir, Darkness Visible, so searingly chronicled his battle with major depression. Alexandra Styron’s parents—the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Sophie’s Choice and his political activist wife, Rose—were, for half a century, leading players on the world’s cultural stage. Alexandra was raised under both the halo of her father’s brilliance and the long shadow of his troubled mind. A drinker, a carouser, and above all “a high priest at the altar of fiction,” Styron helped define the concept of The Big Male Writer that gave so much of twentieth-century American fiction a muscular, glamorous aura. In constant pursuit of The Great Novel, he and his work were the dominant force in his family’s life, his turbulent moods the weather in their ecosystem. From Styron’s Tidewater, Virginia, youth and precocious literary debut to the triumphs of his best-known books and on through his spiral into depression, Reading My Father portrays the epic sweep of an American artist’s life, offering a ringside seat on a great literary generation’s friendships and their dramas. It is also a tale of filial love, beautifully written, with humor, compassion, and grace.

Book Darling Monster

Download or read book Darling Monster written by Diana Cooper and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2014-08-14 with total page 962 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An English aristocrat’s WWII letters “illuminate British history . . . [and] offer an indelible portrait of an extraordinary woman and her vanished world.”(Kirkus Reviews) Aristocrat, socialite, actress and wife of Duff Cooper, Churchill's wartime Minister for Information, later Ambassador to France and Viscount Norwich, Diana Cooper was also an inveterate letter-writer. Gathered here, her missives to her only son John Julius Norwich during the Second World War and its aftermath provide a vivid picture of the age and its personalities, and a woman of great intelligence, happiest on her country smallholding but able to cope with the demands on a politician's wife. "While Darling Monster is a showcase of Diana’s debonair wit, it is also a unique chronicle of wartime Britain. Her vivid descriptions, the sense of bravery in the face of impending doom, make these letters the kind of primary source material historians drool over.” —The Guardian “Cooper is always quick with a turn of phrase, and the collection reminds us of a time, not so long ago, when letters were a natural part of life.” —Publishers Weekly

Book I ve Been Thinking

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "How unfair for one man to be blessed with such a torrent of stimulating thoughts. Stimulating is an understatement." —Richard Dawkins A memoir by one of the greatest minds of our age, preeminent philosopher and cognitive scientist Daniel C. Dennett. Daniel C. Dennett, preeminent philosopher and cognitive scientist, has spent his career considering the thorniest, most fundamental mysteries of the mind. Do we have free will? What is consciousness and how did it come about? What distinguishes human minds from the minds of animals? Dennett’s answers have profoundly shaped our age of philosophical thought. In I’ve Been Thinking, he reflects on his amazing career and lifelong scientific fascinations. Dennett’s relentless curiosity has taken him from a childhood in Beirut and the classrooms of Harvard, Oxford, and Tufts, to “Cognitive Cruises” on sailboats and the fields and orchards of Maine, and to laboratories and think tanks around the world. Along the way, I’ve Been Thinking provides a master class in the dominant themes of twentieth-century philosophy and cognitive science—including language, evolution, logic, religion, and AI—and reveals both the mistakes and breakthroughs that shaped Dennett’s theories. Key to this journey are Dennett’s interlocutors—Douglas Hofstadter, Marvin Minsky, Willard Van Orman Quine, Gilbert Ryle, Richard Rorty, Thomas Nagel, John Searle, Gerald Edelman, Stephen Jay Gould, Jerry Fodor, Rodney Brooks, and more—whose ideas, even when he disagreed with them, helped to form his convictions about the mind and consciousness. Studded with photographs and told with characteristic warmth, I’ve Been Thinking also instills the value of life beyond the university, one enriched by sculpture, music, farming, and deep connection to family. Dennett compels us to consider: What do I really think? And what if I’m wrong? This memoir by one of the greatest minds of our time will speak to anyone who seeks to balance a life of the mind with adventure and creativity.
