Book Human Factors Design of Dynamic Displays

Download or read book Human Factors Design of Dynamic Displays written by Conrad L. Dudek and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the findings and design implications of a series of research studies with respect to parameters of dynamic visual displays (Changeable Message Signs) and auditory displays (Highway Advisory Radio). Laboratory, proving ground and field studies were conducted. Dynamic visual display factors investigated have been classified into five areas: message factors, character factors, accentuation factors, dynamic factors, and visibility factors. In-situ controlled field studies were conducted to validate findings from previous HAR laboratory studies. Specific areas investigated were: language style, information load, redundancy, description of alternate routes, and advance road sign for radio tuning.

Book Display and Interface Design

Download or read book Display and Interface Design written by Kevin B. Bennett and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-03-09 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reason that good interfaces are few and far between is really quite simple: they are extremely difficult to design and build properly. While there are many books available that address display design, most of them focus on aesthetic principles but lack scientific rigor, or are descriptive but not prescriptive. This book elucidates an overarching framework for design that can be applied to the broad spectrum of existing domains. The authors delineate analytical tools and principles of design that are general and powerful, but very abstract, accompanied by concrete examples of their use in a variety of domains of application. The book includes access to a web site containing examples of the dynamic properties of displays.

Book Tactical Display for Soldiers

Download or read book Tactical Display for Soldiers written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-01-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the human factors issues associated with the development, testing, and implementation of helmet-mounted display technology in the 21st Century Land Warrior System. Because the framework of analysis is soldier performance with the system in the full range of environments and missions, the book discusses both the military context and the characteristics of the infantry soldiers who will use the system. The major issues covered include the positive and negative effects of such a display on the local and global situation awareness of the individual soldier, an analysis of the visual and psychomotor factors associated with each design feature, design considerations for auditory displays, and physical sources of stress and the implications of the display for affecting the soldier's workload. The book proposes an innovative approach to research and testing based on a three-stage strategy that begins in the laboratory, moves to controlled field studies, and culminates in operational testing.

Book Human Factors in Simple and Complex Systems

Download or read book Human Factors in Simple and Complex Systems written by Robert W. Proctor and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-02 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, there have been a number of advances in technology, including in mobile devices, globalization of companies, display technologies and healthcare, all of which require significant input and evaluation from human factors specialists. Accordingly, this textbook has been completely updated, with some chapters folded into other chapters and new chapters added where needed. The text continues to fill the need for a textbook that bridges the gap between the conceptual and empirical foundations of the field.

Book Human Factors in Simple and Complex Systems Second Edition

Download or read book Human Factors in Simple and Complex Systems Second Edition written by Robert W. Proctor and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-04-22 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In terms of simple and complex systems, it is a whole new world out there. At the initial publication of this book, fourteen years ago, the web was in its infancy, DVDs did not exist, cell phones were few and far between, and the information superhighway was just a blip upon the horizon. If you used the terms "social engineering," you were most likely a political scientist, and if you were "phishing" you might be listening to a rock band. The second edition of a bestseller, Human Factors in Simple and Complex Systems provides the necessary understanding of the breadth and depth of human factors issues that influence the design, implementation, and evaluation of products and systems. Emphasizing the close relationship between basic theory and application, the authors delineate a framework for the research process, present an integrated view of the current state of knowledge, and examine how these factors can be applied to system design. The new edition addresses such concepts as situation awareness and highlights topics of interest, with a special focus on computer applications and human-computer interaction. See what’s new in the Second Edition New topics, such as situational awareness, that capture the tremendous changes in human factors and ergonomics Tightly integrates basic research and application, strengthening the link between knowledge and practice Each chapter includes a separate box that discusses a topic of current interest related to human interaction with computers and recent technology Demonstrating a general approach to solving a broad range of system problems, the book provides coverage of the theoretical foundation on which the discipline of human factors is built. Structured around human information processing, it covers the full range of contemporary human factors and ergonomics, then shows you how to apply them.
