Book Principles of Functional Anatomy of the Rabbit Classic Reprint

Download or read book Principles of Functional Anatomy of the Rabbit Classic Reprint written by Edward Drane Crabb and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-23 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Functional Anatomy of the Rabbit This elementary work on dissection of the rabbit was pre pared to meet the needs of laboratory courses in mammalian anatomy designed for students who Wish to obtain a background for advanced human physiology, for those majoring in physical education and for premedical and other students who wish to learn the technique of mammalian dissection and the basic principles of descriptive and functional anatomy. An effort has been made to keep the subject matter down to such a point that the entire outline may be covered in one hundred, or less, laboratory hours. In teaching mammalian anatomy the writer finds that the most nearly ideal method is that employed by Professor J. Percy Moore, in the University of Pennsylvania who discourages the student from committing the descriptions to memory, with the idea of reciting them by rote, and stimulates him to learn anatomy from the functional, rather than the purely descriptive point of view. The student is required to be able to demonstrate on his specimen and explain the relations and functions of structures at any time the laboratory instructor may make such requests and at written examinations. The method of using the consecutive numbers of muscles, arteries, and nerves in the descriptions and cross references is an elaboration of a similar system employed in mimeographed outlines for dissecting the cat, at the University of Pennsylvania. Book Bensley s Practical Anatomy of the Rabbit

Download or read book Bensley s Practical Anatomy of the Rabbit written by Edward H. Craigie and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1948-12-15 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The anatomical study of an animal is chiefly a matter of applying a certain practical method of exposition, the student's attention being concentrated on those facts which can be made out by direct observation. This method is educative in the technical sense because it involves accurate discernment of detail, and because, as a means of obtaining first-hand information, it is the foundation of laboratory practice. This being the case, it is a very pertinent question what is the best procedure. So far, as the present book is concerned, it is expected that the study of the type will begin with at least a preliminary survey of the prepared skeleton (Part II). This will be followed by dissection (Part III), in which the order by sections will be found of less importance than that of details in any particular region and and in which portions of the skeleton related to the part under examination may be included. The regional method of approach is indicated rather than the more complete study of single systems, partly for the sake of economy of material and partly in belief that this aids understanding of the topographical and other interrelations between systems, encouraging the building up of a conception of the individual organism as an integrated unit. The general matter of Part I is purely accessory and, though necessarily incomplete in many ways, is designed to afford a comprehensive view of the various factors upon which mammalian structure depends. It will be found that only the first few chapters are introductory in most respects, the remainder being rather explanatory and hence most valuable if used to supplement the directions for dissection as this is carried out. In preparation of the eighth edition of the Practical Anatomy of the Rabbit use has been made of extensive notes recorded in the laboratory during successive years of employment of the previous edition. All relevant questions raised by students or other instructors for which an adequate answer was found not to be readily available in the text have been noted and an attempt has been made to provide answers for them in the revisions. The whole text has been searchingly surveyed with the result that many small changes have been made, parts have been expanded, and a few have been entirely rewritten.

Book Laboratory Guide to Vertebrate Dissection for Students of Anatomy

Download or read book Laboratory Guide to Vertebrate Dissection for Students of Anatomy written by Arthur Beeny Appleton and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1929 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As its title indicates, this is a book for use in a practical comparative anatomy course. It is intended for a somewhat unusual class of student, and consequently its contents, outlook, and method of treatment are unlike those of the standard texts in this subject. As stated in the preface, it is assumed that the student has already done a course in elementary zoology, including the usual verte-brate types, and has also examined in more detail a mammal. Unless this mammal were man, a number of comparisons in the book would be missed. To obtain full benefit from it the student should obviously have taken the preliminary medical studies, including a fair amount of human anatomy. This is not meant to imply that the student of advanced zoology cannot get many useful hints and fresh points of view from its pages; he undoubtedly can. The types, treated in a series of regional dissections, are the lamprey, the dogfish (Squalus), Necturus, the lizard, and the dog. As it is intended for assistance in dissection, information regarding osteology and the details of the central nervous system have been purposely omitted and, conversely, the muscles are treated somewhat more fully than is customary.

Book Guide To Dissection Of The Human Body A 2nd Edition

Download or read book Guide To Dissection Of The Human Body A 2nd Edition written by Lisowski Frederick Peter and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2004-05-24 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this second edition of A Guide to Dissection of the Human Body, certain dissecting instructions have been revised to increase clarity. Methodical and comprehensive, the guide complements various anatomy courses. The terminology has been checked and brought up to date, in accordance with the latest version of Terminologia Anatomica (1998).The major aim of this guide remains — to provide a well-rounded dissecting manual that reinforces, but does not replace, a textbook of human anatomy. The details of human anatomy covered here are of interest and importance primarily in a medical context. To this end the guide has been designed for medical, dental, osteopathy and physiotherapy students, and for students of alternative medicine where dissection of the human body is required. It has also been planned for postgraduate students proceeding to specialise in the various clinical (surgical, radiological, emergency medical, and gynaecological) sciences and thus need to revise their anatomical knowledge through dissection. It has to be stressed, learning anatomy is most efficient and retention is highest when didactic study is combined with the experience of dissection. In using this method one observes, palpates and moves parts of the body. It is a three-dimensional and visuo-tactile approach to the examination of the human body. Undoubtedly dissection reinforces and expands the knowledge gained from the textbook and from atlases and computerized-anatomy programs, The Guide is flexible enough for use in long as well as short courses, and is thus structured in such a way that the dissection of the body can be completed in 100 to 160 hours. It provides a link to real, living and variable anatomy.

Book excerpt: This laboratory guidebook provides step-by-step procedures that will aid in the dissection and collection of major organs and tissues of the most common species of small animals used in biomedical research. Through extensive use of photographs and illustrations, the dissector is guided through a complete necropsy of each species for the purpose of collecting the organs and tissues routinely examined by pathologists. The techniques described will enable the technician to perform necropsies on almost any mammal in a precise and logical sequence, and to properly collect tissue in order to avoid diagnostic errors. Morphological differences among the various species are discussed.
