Since that time, I have received thousands of entries from employers and human resource personnel. This book contains the most offensive or annoying words chosen by employers and HR personnel as undesirable for a resume. All of these words have appeared on resumes from candidates in most all professions and for all types of jobs. You might be surprised that some of the words in this book are not words at all. These are made-up such as buzzwords commonly seen on resumes. Avoid all non-words. This list contains the most common and disliked offenders. Many employers do not like some of the words, a number of words have undesirable inferences, some of the terms are so overused they annoy HR, other phrases and terms are so frequently misused employers lose interest, and several words just rub them the wrong way. Some of the words and phrases on the list you would not think about putting on your resume. Other words you would not think twice about excluding. A number of these 'words' made the list because they are not recognized words at all. Some are industry or geographically specific buzzwords and not known universally. So why take any chances? Get the book, browse the list, and eliminate any of these words from your resume and cover letter, before they eliminate you!
