Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most philosophers of history have been apologists excusing the rights of the elite, the privileged, the priests, and the kingsthe rights of the king to wage war, the rights of the property owners to rule their tenants, the rights of the priests to pardon sins, and the rights of the lords to create laws. Philosophy is the foundation of all of societies thoughts, and notions of the famous thinkers percolate out to the masses. Most of philosophy has been detrimental to society because it is not thought through. War is stupid regardless of how many great thinkers think it good. Poverty is a stupid scourge to our society regardless of it being regarded as a necessary evil. Crime is stupid behavior by stupid people and can certainly be abolished through proper policy and education. This is a work of philosophy, but unlike historical philosophies, it does not give excuse to society as it now is but gives plain and serious vision to how it can be. In the world of the future, there will be no more war, no more crime, and no more poverty anywhere that men shall be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bestselling author David Gessner’s wilderness road trip inspired by America’s greatest conservationist, Theodore Roosevelt, is “a rallying cry in the age of climate change” (Robert Redford). “Leave it as it is,” Theodore Roosevelt announced while viewing the Grand Canyon for the first time. “The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.” Roosevelt’s pronouncement signaled the beginning of an environmental fight that still wages today. To reconnect with the American wilderness and with the president who courageously protected it, acclaimed nature writer and New York Times bestselling author David Gessner embarks on a great American road trip guided by Roosevelt’s crusading environmental legacy. Gessner travels to the Dakota badlands where Roosevelt awakened as a naturalist; to Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon where Roosevelt escaped during the grind of his reelection tour; and finally, to Bears Ears, Utah, a monument proposed by Native Tribes that is currently embroiled in a national conservation fight. Along the way, Gessner questions and reimagines Roosevelt’s vision for today’s lands. “Insightful, observant, and wry,” (BookPage) Leave It As It Is offers an arresting history of Roosevelt’s pioneering conservationism, a powerful call to arms, and a profound meditation on our environmental future.

Book Hurricane Katrina

  • Author : Richard Alan Drummond
  • Publisher : Page Publishing Inc
  • Release : 2020-11-15
  • ISBN : 1662406843

Download or read book Hurricane Katrina written by Richard Alan Drummond and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-11-15 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a very personal account of my life during a two-week period in August of 2005. The timeframe begins one week prior to Hurricane Katrina, through one week after Hurricane Katrina battered the Northern Gulf of Mexico's entire coastline. The date was, August 29, 2005; the day that became my personal, "Defining Moment of Reference". In this book, I will describe the heavy toll of the losses related to my personal relationships that existed at that time, the immeasurable gains of so many new relationships that were forged out of the unexpected human kindness, comfort and love that arose out of the wreckage, and everything that falls somewhere in between all of these things. I will explain how the decisions that I made during this time period, compounded and influenced by the arrival of Hurricane Katrina, affected my life, and the lives of so many people whose existence was intertwined with mine, including, before, during and after this horrific, natural and disastrous event. This is not a story "about" Hurricane Katrina, although the entire event is described in an incredibly descriptive way that will make you feel as though you are there, with us! I lay out some very personal and traumatic details within this book, but I also explain how many negative occurrences have positive counterparts that balance the scales of life, and I take care to tell about all of these things in very honest and explicit terms. I am sure that I will be judged harshly, by some, and praised by others, as a result of releasing such intimate details about who I am and what is important to me, in this book. But none of that matters to me because the story had to be told, and in this book the entire story is told!

Book excerpt: Hurricane Katrina inflicted damage on a scale unprecedented in American history, nearly destroying a major city and killing thousands of its citizens. With far too little help from indifferent, incompetent government agencies, the poor bore the brunt of the disaster. The residents of traditionally impoverished and minority communities suffered incalculable losses and endured unimaginable conditions. And the few facilities that did exist to help victims quickly became miserable, dangerous places. Now, the victims of Hurricane Katrina find themselves spread across the United States, far from the homes they left and faced with the prospect of starting anew. Families are struggling to secure jobs, homes, schools, and a sense of place in unfamiliar surroundings. Meanwhile, the rebuilding of their former home remains frustrating out of their hands. This bracing read brings readers to the heart of the disaster and its aftermath as those who survived it speak with candor and eloquence of their lives then and now.
