This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revival is in the air. Thoughtful ministers and Christians everywhere are talking about a revival, expecting a revival, and, best of all, praying for a revival. There seems to be little doubt that a revival of some kind is coming, but the important question is, What kind of a revival will it be? Will it be a true revival, sent of God because His people have met the conditions that make it possible for God to work with power, or will it be a spurious revival gotten up by the arts and devices of man? A business man who is in touch with religious movements in all parts of the country said to me recently, "There is little doubt that a revival of some kind is coming, and the revival that is coming will be either the greatest blessing or the greatest curse that has ever visited the church of Christ." There are thousands of ministers and other Christian workers in the land longing for a true revival of God's work, but with no experimental or even theoretical knowledge of how to go to work to promote such a revival. It is our earnest prayer and confident expectation that this book will prove helpful to all such.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Promote and Conduct a Successful Revival: With Suggestive Outlines The first edition of this book was published the year before we began our evangelistic tour around the world. For two years or more hundreds of us had been praying together for a world-wide revival and we had reached the point where we were absolutely sure that the revival was coming, and this book was prepared as a preparation for that revival and as a help to it. I had not decided at that time to go around the world. The decision was made shortly afterwards. In looking over the book since my return home, I have been surprised to see how closely we have followed the lines of action suggested in this book, and have been rejoiced to see how God has set His seal upon the principles enunciated in the book. At the time that the book was given to the public, the editor was known more as a Bible teacher and as a pastor than as an evangelist. His evangelistic activity had been largely confined to those churches of which he himself was pastor. Since the publication of the book, God has seen fit to lead him out into the evangelistic field and he has had the privilege of applying on a very wide scale the princi ples which he enunciates in the book and he has found that these principles work successfully, even beyond his own anticipation. I am more firmly convinced than ever of the truth of the statement found on the eighteenth page of the book. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away. – 1 Corinthians 2:6 There are too many trying to promote revival by pushing doctrines that have never produced a revival in all of church history. These doctrines are called new, but they are in reality as old as the early heresies that crept into the church. They have never had power to produce conviction of sin, conversion, or regeneration, so presumably they will not have that power today. Some of the methods described in this book will appear novel to many, but they are methods that have been tried before, and proven effective. There is no mere theorizing in the book. Men whom God has used in winning souls to Christ and building up believers, have been asked to write out of their own experience. No one who has been asked to write has declined. Such a book as this seems to be an absolute necessity of the hour. There are thousands of ministers and other Christian workers in the land longing for a true revival of God’s work, but with no experimental or even theoretical knowledge of how to go to work to promote such a revival. It is our earnest prayer and confident expectation that this book will prove helpful to all such men.

Book excerpt: God has always been interested in turning unlikely people into his most fervent followers. Prostitutes and pagans, tax collectors and tricksters. The more unlikely, the more it seemed to please God and to demonstrate his power, might, and mercy. America in the 1960s and 1970s was full of unlikely people--men and women who had rejected the stuffy religion of their parents' generation, who didn't follow the rules, didn't fit in. The perfect setting for the greatest spiritual awakening of the 20th century. With passion and purpose, Greg Laurie and Ellen Vaughn tell the amazing true story of the Jesus Movement, an extraordinary time of mass revival, renewal, and reconciliation. Setting fascinating personal stories within the context of one of the most tumultuous times in modern history, the authors draw important parallels with our own time of spiritual apathy or outright hostility, offering hope for the next generation of unlikely believers--and for the next great American revival. Those who lived through the Jesus Revolution will find here an inspiring reminder of the times and people that shaped their lives and faith. Younger readers will discover a forgotten part of recent American history and, along with it, a reason to believe that God is not finished with their generation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On August 14, 2011, when I was in Kandergrund in the Bernese Highlands in Switzerland an important connection became very clear to me. I recognized a spiritual cause for why we are losing part of our youth. I was very shocked. I thought of my children and grandchildren. Since then I have been intensively occupied with this subject. Now I believe that the same spiritual cause is behind many of our problems; specifically the personal problems, in the local churches and the world-wide church. It is the lack of the Holy Spirit. If this is the cause, then we should urgently address this issue. If the cause can be eliminated or considerably reduced, then many problems will become superfluous or will be resolved.

Book How to Experience Revival Journal Edition

Download or read book How to Experience Revival Journal Edition written by Charles G. Finney and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revival starts with one person. You. Charles Finney—who shook up nineteenth-century America with his preaching, earned the title Father of Modern Revivalism, and became the forerunner of revivalists like Dwight L. Moody and Billy Graham—knew a thing or two about revival. And he claimed it began not in the emotion of the masses but in the repentance of the individual. This new journal edition of a spiritual classic invites readers to record their reflections, thoughts, and prayers in response to Finney’s fiery words on how to experience revival. As you let his message soak in and interact with your life, you might find revival to be closer to home than you ever expected.

  • Author : Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Download or read book Revival written by Martyn Lloyd-Jones and published by Crossway. This book was released on 1987-02-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every era the church needs revival—certainly today as much as ever. And in the heart of every committed Christian there is the longing for personal revival—to know the quality and depths of spiritual reality, and the presence of God in one's personal life. This was the deepest desire of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, one of the great 20th-century Bible expositors. It was also the purpose behind this series of messages which were first given on the 100th anniversary of the Great Revival which started in Wales, and swept across England and throughout the United States and to the far corners of the world. As Dr. Lloyd-Jones recognized, it is a rare time in the history of the church when there is a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit— and a time of special interest of every Christian who longs for revival today. As Dr. J. I. Packer writes in his foreword, Dr. Lloyd-Jones believed in "the necessity of revival—that is, a quickening divine visitation—as the only vent that can avert ultimate spiritual disaster. The thrustful urgency of the sermons in this book testifies to the depth of his conviction that without revival in the church there is really no hope for the Western world at all." Dr. Lloyd-Jones deftly draws principles from the lives of Old and New Testament characters as well as expounding some of the great prayers of the Bible. Clearly and forcefully, he presents a masterful exposition of the circumstances accompanying revival in the past, why each generation needs it, and how it will come about today. We must come to the sovereign God, forsake our sin, and wait upon Him for this special, essential outpouring. God, bring us revival!
