Download or read book Parenting Forward written by Cindy Wang Brandt and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A progressive Christian parenting book with a social-justice orientation How do we build a better world? One key way, says Cindy Wang Brandt, is by learning to raise our children with justice, mercy, and kindness. In Parenting Forward Brandt equips Christian parents to model a way of following Jesus that has an outward focus, putting priority on loving others, avoiding judgment, and helping those in need. She shows how parents must work on dismantling their own racial, cultural, gender, economic, and religious biases in order to avoid passing them on to their children. “By becoming aware of the complex ways we participate in systems of inequality or hierarchy,” she says, “we begin to resist systemic injustice ourselves, empower our children, and change our communities.”
Download or read book Good Ole Rotten Apples written by Judy Frankamp and published by Chick Publications. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judy Frankamp discovered that being raised in a “religious” home was not enough. It was only when Jesus her Saviour became the Lord of her life, she truly understood what it meant to be born again. Then she could not help but be honest and confront those around her. She takes us into specific issues that have bothered many Christians, but they could not quite get a handle on them. Frankamp knows how to put them into words. With an engaging, homey style, the author explains how she learned that her favorite “Christian” talk show host was really pushing the New Age. She puts into plain language what is wrong with Harry Potter. She describes her confrontation with liberal pastors who didn’t care if their Bible had removed or changed the words of God. They just didn’t want to make waves. On several occasions, she writes from the point of view of Satan and his devils, scheming how to derail Christians. There are some things, like the Harry Potter craze, that we just “know” aren’t right, but can’t explain it. After reading Frankamp’s story, you’ll know how.

Download or read book Policing Child Sexual Abuse written by Paul Bleakley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-15 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policing Child Sexual Abuse provides a historical overview of the evolution of policing child sexual abuse in Queensland, tracing a legacy of failure (even corruption) in the decades leading up to the foundation of Task Force Argos, a branch of the Queensland Police Service created in part as a response to criticisms of police shortcomings in this area. The book uses archival material as a foundation to trace the shifting approach to policing child sexual abuse (CSA) from the 1960s, when juvenile justice first became a central focus of policing in Queensland, to the 2010s, at which point Task Force Argos made international headlines for its primary role in bringing major international CSA offenders like Shannon McCoole, Benjamin "Warhead" Faulkner and Richard Huckle to justice. Examining archival material to pinpoint the reasons that CSA was not dealt with effectively in the past, the book shows that often these reasons were political, unrelated to the policing of CSA at all. Policing Child Sexual Abuse stands as a testament to the victims of CSA who have been failed by the system in the past. In addition, the book acts as a case study of how a police force with such a negative track record in policing this area was able to correct its path and reform its practices, to the point that it could emerge as a world leader in policing CSA. Though nominally focused on policing in one Australian state, the implications are global, with Task Force Argos’s work naturally impacting on the CSA investigations of all of its partner agencies, both in Australia and internationally. Demonstrating how, even in contexts where police responses to CSA have been met with significant criticism, an opportunity still exists to reject historical failures in favour of a renewed commitment to proactive policing, this book will be of great interest to scholars of policing, historical criminology, and child sexual abuse.

Download or read book The Survival Game written by David P. Barash, Ph.D. and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2004-09-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a zoologist and psychologist, an astonishing look at the biological and strategic roots of human decisions Humans, like bacteria, woodchucks, chimpanzees, and other animals, compete or cooperate in order to get food, shelter, territory, and other resources to survive. But how do they decide whether to muscle out or team up with the competition? In The Survival Game, David P. Barash synthesizes the newest ideas from psychology, economics, and biology to explore and explain the roots of human strategy. Drawing on game theory-the study of how individuals make decisions-he explores the give-and-take of spouses in determining an evening's plans, the behavior of investors in a market bubble, and the maneuvers of generals on a battlefield alongside the mating and fighting strategies of "less rational" animals. Ultimately, Barash's lively and clear examples shed light on what makes our decisions human, and what we can glean from game theory and the natural world as we negotiate and compete every day.
