Book What Every 18 Yr Old Needs To Know

Download or read book What Every 18 Yr Old Needs To Know written by Paul from White Lake and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-11-03 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is there so much bipartisan bickering? Why are some folks so darned adamant about their political viewpoints? Should we all actually develop a political belief system? But who really gives a hoot about politics, anyways? Have the schools of this USofA adequately prepared our 18 year olds for one of the important privileges that they can now engage, namely to vote? And even after 18 years old, how and when does each of us actually become EXPERT at selecting our politicians? How can any one person know who to vote for, and does it really make any difference which way we vote? They say that if I don't vote then I have no right to complain about who we get in our government. But that doesn't make any sense, or is it just me? Some say that the MEDIA is biased, but how can that be? They just report the news, don't they? Why won't our government just do more to FIX things and to HELP people? What SHOULD our government REALLY do to help us solve our problems? I've even heard people talk about dark and strange conspiracy theories; about people who are so super rich and powerful, who plan things in secret, and that THEY are the REAL people in control in this world, playing us as if we're all just tokens on a game board ...

Book A Long Bright Future

Download or read book A Long Bright Future written by Laura Carstensen and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2011-09-27 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twentieth century bequeathed us a fabulous gift: thirty more years of life on average. Supersized life spans are going to radically alter society, and present an unprecedented opportunity to change our approach not only to old age but to all of life's stages. The ramifications are just beginning to dawn on us.... yet in the meantime, we keep thinking about, and planning for, life as it used to be lived. In A Long Bright Future, longevity and aging expert Laura Carstensen guides us into the new possibilities offered by a longer life. She debunks the myths and misconceptions about aging that stop us from adequately preparing for the future both as individuals and as a society: that growing older is associated with loneliness and unhappiness, and that only the genetically blessed live well and long. She then focuses on other important components of a long life, including finances, health, social relationships, Medicare and Social Security, challenging our preconceived notions of "old age" every step of the way.

Book Everything I Needed to Know I Learned From My Six Month Old

This book was released on 2013-10-15 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a tribe in Africa where, the first time a woman leaves home following the confinement period after giving birth, everyone she meets along the road greets her with a sacred song otherwise reserved for warriors returning from battle. She’s honored as having lived through a rite of passage that will forever mark her womanhood as abundant and powerful and blessed. She’s respected as a fully franchised member of the most ubiquitous and yet most extraordinary group of beings in our collective experience: mothers. Everything I Needed to Know, I Learned from a Six-Month-Old: Awakening to Unconditional Self Love in Motherhood is an Eat Pray Love for moms. It fuses memoir, spirituality and self-development into the unique perspective that babies are actually extraordinary spiritual teachers who are capable of showing their caregivers the way toward inspired living. Kuwana Haulsey imparts this deeper understanding of a universal truth of love , in which motherhood is explored as a means of waking up to her innate potential for personal transformation.

Book The Oxford Anthology of Roman Literature

Download or read book The Oxford Anthology of Roman Literature written by Peter E. Knox and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though the wonders of ancient Roman culture continue to attract interest across the disciplines, it is difficult to find a lively, accessible collection of the full range of the era's literature in English. The Oxford Anthology of Roman Literature provides a general introduction to the literature of the Roman empire at its zenith, between the second century BC and the second century AD. Two features of this extraordinarily fertile period in literary achievement as evidenced by this anthology are immediately and repeatedly clear: how similar the Romans' view of the world was to our own and, perhaps even more obviously, how different it was. Most of the authors included in the anthology wrote in Latin, but as the anthology moves forward in time, relevant Greek texts that reflect the cultural diversity of Roman literary life are also included, something no other such anthology has done in the past. Roman literature was wonderfully creative and diverse, and the texts in this volume were chosen from a broad range of genres: drama, epic, philosophy, satire, lyric poetry, love poetry. By its very nature an anthology can abbreviate and thus obscure the most attractive features of even a masterpiece, so the two editors have not only selected texts that capture the essence of the respective authors, but also have included accompanying introductions and afterwords that will guide the reader in pursuing further reading. The presentations of the selections are enlivened with illustrations that locate the works within the contexts of the world in which they were written and enjoyed. The student and general reader will come away from this learned yet entertaining anthology with a fuller appreciation of the place occupied by literature in the Roman world.
