Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Inequality in world income is very high, according to household surveys, more because of differences between mean country incomes than because of inequality within countries. World inequality increased between 1988 and 1993, driven by slower growth in rural per capita incomes in populous Asian countries (Bangladesh, China, and India) than in large, rich OECD countries, and by increasing income differences between urban China on the one hand and rural China and rural India on the other"--Cover.

This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book strives to present the results of research into the consumption of goods and services in Czech households. The first two chapters focus on the effect of consumption on the environment and theoretical approaches towards consumption and behaviour analysis. The remaining five chapters look into consumer behaviour and its significant effect on the environment, such as a demand for energy and transport, energy-saving measures in households, car ownership and organic food consumption. This book aims to point out the environmental effects related to these types of behaviour and provide new information on the frequency of these types of consumer behaviour in various segments of the Czech society. This publication also accentuates the policies and other intervention tools that may be used to influence consumer behaviour.

Book Energy Services for the Urban Poor in Africa

Download or read book Energy Services for the Urban Poor in Africa written by Bereket Kebede and published by Zed Books Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-07-18 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa has been experiencing higher rates of urbanization than any other continent, and today about one-third of the continent‘s population live in urban areas. But studies of energy services for urban residents, especially the poor, are still rare. The supply of electricity to poor city dwellers has not kept pace with urbanisation: in 1970 some 40 million had no access to electricity; by the year 2000 there were over 100 million. The urban poor continue to rely on wood fuel, charcoal, kerosene and dung cakes for energy, with all their environmental drawbacks. This book examines the affordability of modern energy sources for the poor; the relevance of energy subsidies; the impact of subsidies on public finances; and how electricity tariffs affect the operations of small and medium enterprises, the main source of livelihood for the majority of the urban poor outside the formal economic sector.
