Book Data Organization and the Design of Measures for Exploration and Analysis of Household Activity

Download or read book Data Organization and the Design of Measures for Exploration and Analysis of Household Activity written by Ronald Norman Buliung and published by Library and Archives Canada = Bibliothèque et Archives Canada. This book was released on 2005 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The activity approach to the study of travel behaviour emerged during the late 1970s in response to behavioural inadequacies of the trip-based paradigm, characteristic of that time period. Following decades of research, there is now broad understanding with respect to determinants of individual level activity/travel outcomes. There is also general recognition that the activities of individuals are closely tied to those of additional household members. From a behavioural perspective, the research described in this dissertation has been conducted to explore the manner in which the activity/travel choices of individuals can be expressed at the household level. An improved understanding of household activity/travel behaviour can be used to inform policy designed to facilitate travel reduction by targeting households that engage in above average daily travel.

Book Behavioural Research for Transport Policy

Download or read book Behavioural Research for Transport Policy written by Brill Academic and published by VSP. This book was released on 1986-12 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The efficiency of transport systems depends on their relevance to those using them. All too often, however, transport policies are implemented at great expense without due regard to the behaviour, and consequent needs, of transport users. Behavioural Research for Transport Policy will improve the lines of communication between behavioural researchers and policy makers. The papers presented at the 1985 International Conference on Travel Behaviour cover the wide range of factors which need to be taken into account when gauging the effect behaviour has on transport requirements and usage. Contributions discuss the variety and usefulness of different survey frameworks; the lifestyle factors affecting transport use, and the problems of cost effectiveness in both survey techniques and the implementation of transport policy.

Book Methods for Household Travel Surveys

Download or read book Methods for Household Travel Surveys written by Peter R. Stopher and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1996 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to planning, administrative, and traffic officials in state transportation agencies and in metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs); to consultants concerned with the design and conduct of surveys; and to those engaged in developing and applying travel forecasting models. It describes the various facets of planning, designing, conducting, and evaluating household travel surveys. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on the manner in which many household surveys are currently carried out and provides comment on the likely changes in the process, in the survey instrument, and in the application of more cost-effective methods of data collection in household travel surveys. This synthesis describes the methods for collection, including survey instrument design, as well as testing and administering the surveys. Information on time and cost requirements is also included, as are descriptions of evaluation and data analysis methods.
