Book Hot Corrosion Behavior of Modified Aluminide Coatings on Cobalt Base Superalloys

Download or read book Hot Corrosion Behavior of Modified Aluminide Coatings on Cobalt Base Superalloys written by Muhammad Yasin and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine gas turbines experience a number of detrimental operating conditions as a result of environment and fuel variation. There are two types of hot corrosion which occur in marine and other types of gas turbines known as low temperature hot corrosion and high temperature hot corrosion. Protective coatings are necessary and have been widely used to improve hot corrosion resistance for superalloys operating in this environment. Considerable data can be obtained from the literature on systems applied to nickel-base superalloys while little data are available on similarly coated cobalt-base superalloys. This study was initiated to evaluate the behavior of modified coatings on a series of cobalt-base superalloys in both high and low temperature hot corrosion.

Book Hot Corrosion Resistant Aluminide Coatings of Controlled Composition for Nickel Base Superalloys

Download or read book Hot Corrosion Resistant Aluminide Coatings of Controlled Composition for Nickel Base Superalloys written by Victor S. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the program was to develop and evaluate new application techniques and aluminide coatings of controlled composition for improved hot corrosion resistance of nickel-base superalloys. Three cast nickel-base alloys were included in the coating development program: Inco 713C, B1900 and TRW (or NASA) VIA. Procedures and techniques were developed for applying modified elements of known composition onto nickel-base alloys followed by aluminizing to form the beta NiAl aluminide. The modifying elements evaluated were Cr, Co, Y, La, Nd, Gd, Mischmetal, Ti, Zr, Si, Al2O3, MgO, Mo, W, Ta, and several combinations of the above refractory, reactive, and rare earth metals. A crucible sulfidation test (using 95Na2SO4-5NaCl) at 1750F was the principal screening test used during coating development. Oxidation tests at 1750F and 2000F and ballistic impact tests (followed by crucible sulfidation tests) were also used to screen the coatings. Final evaluation of selected coatings consisted of hot corrosion rig tests at 1650F and 1800F, tensile tests at room temperature, 1400F and 1800F, stress rupture testing at 1650F and 1800F and low-cycle fatigue tests at 1400F. Book Surface Engineering

Download or read book Surface Engineering written by R. Kossowsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few years there has been increasing need for systematic and straregically designed experiments of surface morphology evolution resulting form ion bombardment induced sputtering. Although there is an impressive number of investi gations {1} concerned with semiconductor materials as a result of immediate applications, the most systematic investigations have been conducted with fcc metals with particular interest on single crystal Cu {2,3}. Evidence now exists that within certain para meters (i. e ion species (Ar+), ion energy (20-44 KeV), substrate 2 temperature (80-550° K), dose rate (100-500 gA cm- ) , residual x 5 9 pressure (5 10- to 5x10- mm Hg) and polar and azimuthal angle of ion incidence {4} reproducible surface morphology (etch pits and pyramids) is achieved on the (11 3 1) specific crystallographic orientation. The temporal development of individual surface features was alsoobserved in this laterstudy {4}, by employing an in situ ion source in the scanning electron microscope at Salford, a technique also empolyed in studies of the influence of polar angle of ion incidence {5} and surface contaminants {6} on the topographyof Ar+ bombarded Si. Studies have also been made on the variation of incident ion species with the (11 3 1) Cu surface and it was fully recognized {7} that residual surface contaminants when present could playa major role in dictating the morhological evolution.

Book Advances in Corrosion Science and Technology

Download or read book Advances in Corrosion Science and Technology written by Mars G. Fontana and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series was organized to provide a forum for review papers in the area of corrosion. The aim of these reviews is to bring certain areas of corrosion science and technology into a sharp focus. The volumes of this series are published approximately on a yearly basis and each contains three to five reviews. The articles in each volume are selected in such a way as to be of interest both to the corrosion scientists and the corrosion technologists. There is, in fact, a particular aim in juxtaposing these interests because of the importance of mutual interaction and interdisciplinarity so important in corrosion studies. It is hoped that the corrosiori scientists in this way may stay abreast of the activities in corrosion technology and vice versa. In this series the term "corrosion" is used in its very broadest sense. It includes, therefore, not only the degradation of metals in aqueous en vironment but also what is commonly referred to as "high-temperature oxidation. " Further, the plan is to be even more general than these topics; the series will include all solids and all environments. Today, engineering solids include not only metals but glasses, ionic solids, polymeric solids, and composites of these. Environments of interest must be extended to liquid metals, a wide variety of gases, nonaqueous electrolytes, and other non aqueous liquids.
