Book Biology of Phakopsora Pachyrhizi the Causal Agent of Soybean Rust in Florida

Download or read book Biology of Phakopsora Pachyrhizi the Causal Agent of Soybean Rust in Florida written by Heather Marie Young and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kudzu populations in Florida were screened for genetic resistance to SBR using primers designed in conserved nucleotide binding site (NBS) domain of the known soybean resistant gene Rpp4 and restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP). High genetic variation among kudzu populations and low variation within populations were found with respect to NBS region(s). No patterns of variation were observed in regard to geographic location of kudzu populations or infection history of SBR from 2005 through 2011. Results indicate that kudzu is a good source of resistance to SBR not only due to the genetic variation among kudzu populations but also due to an overall reduction in severity of disease development on both susceptible and resistant kudzu as compared to soybean.

  • Release : 2016
  • ISBN : 0199688788
  • Pages : 161 pages

Download or read book Fungi written by Nicholas P. Money and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The variety of the mycological world is far greater than most people imagine. Some fungi kill trees and ravage crops, and pathogenic fungi can infect animals and even humans. But fungi also play crucial roles in ecosystems. They act as agents of wood decay in forests, and symbiotic relationships with mycorrhizal fungi are vital to many plants. In this Very Short Introduction Nicholas P. Money explains the essential functions performed by fungi, the importance of studying them to contain fungal diseases, and how fungi are being used in agriculture, biotechnology, and medicine. -- from cover flap.

Download or read book Soybean written by Minobu Kasai and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-02-20 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plants are important for a permanent ecosystem, because in the ecological pyramid plants support all the other living organisms at the base. Very important organization is thought to be the integral process of resource, transport, partitioning, metabolism, and production, which involves yield, biomass, and productivity in plants. Accordingly, it is important to obtain more information about the knowledge concerning yield, biomass, and productivity in plants. Soybean is one of the main crops largely contributing to our life, which is thought to be connected to our ecosystem through the above-mentioned integral process. This book focuses on the soybean, and reviews and research concerning the yield, biomass, and productivity of soybean are presented herein. This text updates the book published in 2017. Although there are many difficulties, the main aim of this book is to present a basis for the above-mentioned integral processes of resource, transport, partitioning, metabolism, and production, which involves yield, biomass, and productivity in plants (soybean), and to understand what supports this basis and the integral process. It is hoped that this and the preceding book will be essential reads.
