Book Beyond Glory Medal of Honor Heroes in Their Own Words

This book was released on 2004-05-17 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first oral history of living Medal of Honor winners evokes Flags of Our Fathers with stirring accounts of patriotic valor. This New York Times best-selling account of battlefield courage celebrates the larger-than-life sacrifices of those awarded the nation's highest honor for valor in combat. Exclusive interviews with these twenty-four men—firsthand accounts of battlefield sacrifice from the greatest generation to Vietnam, along with before-and-after stories—form the core of this classic work. The recipients, as portrayed here, represent a cross-section as diverse as America itself—officers and enlisted men; African Americans, Hispanics, and Caucasians; men who went on to become famous (Daniel Inouye, James Stockdale, Bob Kerrey) and others who returned proudly to small towns. Beyond Glory, in the voices of these heroes, is a testament to the courage of the American nation.

Muslim women are coming out of hiding and telling their stories. With courageous voices, they disclose tales of shame and a fierce desire to be valued. We hold our breath as they whisper accounts of Jesus dressed in light, coming to them in dreams, offering honor in the place of shame, freedom instead of oppression. Their tales narrate a secret reality for all of us. We all long to be known, to be valued, to be rescued. We all are in desperate need of a Savior. In Covered Glory, you will meet Muslim women living in a culture with an honor-shame worldview that perpetuates their shame. As you discover how these women find freedom when they uncover their true identity, you will find that shame affects each one of us. Learn that while… shame tells us we are unworthy, truth tells us we were made to be loved shame tells us we are nobody, Jesus tells us, “You are somebody to me” shame tells us we are broken, God’s Word tells us healing comes from him It is only when we begin to understand the honor-shame gospel that we are set free. And so is our Muslim neighbor when we learn to tell her of the love of Jesus in a language she understands: the language of honor and shame.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back in print for the first time in decades, Auden’s National Book Award–winning poetry collection, in a critical edition that introduces it to a new generation of readers The Shield of Achilles, which won the National Book Award in 1956, may well be W. H. Auden’s most important, intricately designed, and unified book of poetry. In addition to its famous title poem, which reimagines Achilles’s shield for the modern age, when war and heroism have changed beyond recognition, the book also includes two sequences—“Bucolics” and “Horae Canonicae”—that Auden believed to be among his most significant work. Featuring an authoritative text and an introduction and notes by Alan Jacobs, this volume brings Auden’s collection back into print for the first time in decades and offers the only critical edition of the work. As Jacobs writes in the introduction, Auden’s collection “is the boldest and most intellectually assured work of his career, an achievement that has not been sufficiently acknowledged.” Describing the book’s formal qualities and careful structure, Jacobs shows why The Shield of Achilles should be seen as one of Auden’s most central poetic statements—a richly imaginative, beautifully envisioned account of what it means to live, as human beings do, simultaneously in nature and in history.

Book Glory and Honor

Download or read book Glory and Honor written by Gregory Wilbur and published by Cumberland House Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Johann Sebastian Bach was a musical genius, an intellectual giant and a gracious man. His achievement in the area of music is one of the greatest tours de force in history - on a par with or surpassing that of Shakespeare, Michelangelo, Dante, Rembrandt, or Aquinas. Bach worked at a crucial time in history. He combated the ideas of the Enlightenment with its elevation of human reason as the ultimate authority of everything. His struggles, musically and professionally, are those of a man seeking to maintain a high view of worship, academics, and the grounding of all life on the Word of God. As a man valiant in his convictions, he stood against the trends and fashions of his day and succeeded as a witness of the Gospel to the generations who followed him. While his name conjures many images, musical phrases, and half-remembered stories, the life of this colossal genius provides practical lessons in leadership for both artists and anyone who strives to serve others with excellence and integrity.

Book Thanks Praise Honor and Glory to the Triune God for Leading and Guidance in Documenting Lead Poisoning in the Public Schools and the Obstructions of Justice in Order to Conceal the Indisputable Truths

Download or read book Thanks Praise Honor and Glory to the Triune God for Leading and Guidance in Documenting Lead Poisoning in the Public Schools and the Obstructions of Justice in Order to Conceal the Indisputable Truths written by Diana R. Williams and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-08-19 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School buildings in Maryland, Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, Chicago, South Carolina, and throughout America that have chipping, peeling, and flaking lead-based paint on the interior and exterior are exposing our children and others to lead poisoning. Having renovations performed on these already lead hazardous schools without implementing the proper protective protocols to prevent millions of more microscopic lead dust particles from spreading only compounds the exposure to lead poisoning. Moreover, if these same lead hazardous school buildings, also, have their water supply flowing through leaded pipes, pipes that are connected with lead solder, or have leaded fixtures attached to the fountains, then, our leaders of tomorrow and others are ingesting even more lead poisoning through drinking lead-tainted water. This non-fiction book documents the truth that a Mathematics teacher, who has maintained her certification and accreditation in lead hazard evaluation and control since 1997 as a Repainting and Maintenance Supervisor, an Inspector Technician, a Lead Abatement Service Contractor, and thus, a Recognized Lead Expert by the Maryland Department of the Environment, identified four schools in Baltimore City that had either deteriorating, chipping, and flaking lead-based paint, major renovations that disturbed lead hazardous components and didnt have the proper protective protocols in place, or drinking water that was lead-contaminated. She attempted on numerous occasions to have the health hazards addressed and resolved. However, the powers that be only wanted to silence her and continue concealing the truth that for over a decade the custodians of these public schools, the owners, and others knowingly, willingly, and negligently exposed lives to lead poisoning. Moreover, the detailed, documented true findings from five Finders of Fact that substantiate that the powers that be retaliated against the messenger because she blew the whistle regarding the lead hazardous in these Baltimore City schools.

He wanted to marry her. John Merchent: He was tall and blond with blue eyes and a cleft in his chin like Cary Grant's. He didn't have Boone's lively imagination, but he had something else: Jennifer. Book A Ballad of Love and Glory

Download or read book A Ballad of Love and Glory written by Reyna Grande and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-03-15 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the Texas Institute of Letters’s Jesse H. Jones Award for Best Fiction A Long Petal of the Sea meets Cold Mountain in this “epic and exquisitely wrought” (Patricia Engel, New York Times bestselling author) saga following a Mexican army nurse and an Irish soldier who must fight, at first for their survival and then for their love, amidst the atrocity of the Mexican-American War—from the author of The Distance Between Us. A forgotten war. An unforgettable romance. The year is 1846. After the controversial annexation of Texas, the US Army marches south to provoke war with México over the disputed Río Grande boundary. Ximena Salomé is a gifted Mexican healer who dreams of building a family with the man she loves on the coveted land she calls home. But when Texas Rangers storm her ranch and shoot her husband dead, her dreams are burned to ashes. Vowing to honor her husband’s memory and defend her country, Ximena uses her healing skills as a nurse on the frontlines of the ravaging war. Meanwhile, John Riley, an Irish immigrant in the Yankee army desperate to help his family escape the famine devastating his homeland, is sickened by the unjust war and the unspeakable atrocities against his countrymen by nativist officers. In a bold act of defiance, he swims across the Río Grande and joins the Mexican Army—a desertion punishable by execution. He forms the St. Patrick’s Battalion, a band of Irish soldiers willing to fight to the death for México’s freedom. When Ximena and John meet, a dangerous attraction blooms between them. As the war intensifies, so does their passion. Swept up by forces with the power to change history, they fight not only for the fate of a nation but for their future together. “A grand and soulful novel by a storyteller who has hit her full stride” (Julia Alvarez, author of In the Time of the Butterflies), A Ballad of Love and Glory effortlessly illuminates a largely forgotten moment in history that impacts the US–México border to this day.

Book Honor Shame and the Gospel

Download or read book Honor Shame and the Gospel written by Christopher Flanders and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-27 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Honorific Gospel: Biblically Faithful & Culturally Relevant Christians engaged in communicating the gospel navigate a challenging tension: faithfulness to God’s ancient, revealed Word—and relevance to the local, current social context. What if there was a lens or paradigm offering both? Understanding the Bible—particularly the gospel—through the ancient cultural “language” of honor-shame offers believers this double blessing. In Honor, Shame, and the Gospel, over a dozen practitioners and scholars from diverse contexts and fields add to the ongoing conversation around the theological and missiological implications of an honorific gospel. Eight illuminating case studies explore ways to make disciples in a diversity of social contexts—for example, East Asian rural, Middle Eastern refugee, African tribal, and Western secular urban. Honor, Shame, and the Gospel provides valuable resources to impact the ministry efforts of the church, locally and globally. Linked with its ancient honor-shame cultural roots, the gospel, paradoxically, is ever new—offering fresh wisdom to Christian leaders and optimism to the church for our quest to expand Christ’s kingdom and serve the worldwide mission of God.
