Download or read book Effects of Conifer Release with Herbicides on Wildlife a Review with an Emphasis on Ontario Forests written by R. A. Lautenschlager and published by Sault-Ste. Marie : Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. This book was released on 1993 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews studies that have examined the effects of forest herbicide treatments on wildlife in Ontario and similar northern coniferous ecosystems. Since most of the research has been short-term, valid generalizations about the effects of conifer release with herbicides on specific wildlife species or groups must be limited to 1 or 2 growing seasons after treatment. Conifer release is only one of several forest management tools designed to direct secondary succession and shape future forests. Managed forests, moreover, are only parts of larger ecosystems, which in turn are parts of the overall landscape. The effects of the composition of the landscape mosaic on resident wildlife should be considered when conifer release is discussed. In Ontario, where harvesting has reduced the coniferous component in forests and landscapes, conifer release could help restore this component and increase both forest and wildlife diversity.

Download or read book Third International Conference on Forest Vegetation Management written by F. W. Bell and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contains summaries of forest vegetation management research projects being conducted in northern Ontario and visited in field tours during a conference that focused on: alternative methods of vegetation control; ecosystem effects associated with vegetation management practices; and ecosystem management and its implications for forest vegetation management. The three tours had the following themes: plant competition and ecophysiology of forest regeneration; effects of vegetation management on forest ecosystems; and vegetation management in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence forest.
Download or read book Glyphosate written by John E. Franz and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glyphosate is a popular global post-emergent perennial herbicide. This volume is a comprehensive review of glyphosate's history, properties, chemistry, biology, formulation, technology, enzymology, and structure/activity relationship. The discussion covers glyphosate's unique environmental properties, broad range of application, soil inactivity, soil and plant metabolism, low toxicity, and uptake and transport in plants. It also covers the syntheses of hundreds of analogs and derivatives and clarifies glyphosate's molecular mode of action and its effect on the target enzyme EPSP synthase.
