Book excerpt: Excerpt from Homiletic and Catechetic Studies, According to the Spirit of Holy Scripture and of the Ecclesiastical Year The exalted authority of the Catholic preacher does not indeed clothe him with oficial infallibility, but in consequence of the intimate union of the preacher with the teaching Church, in consequence of the superintendency and direction of the preaching ofice by this same infallible teaching Church, in consequence of a certain participation of the preaching ofiice in the magisterium ordinarium of the Church the hearing Church possesses a real guaranty that through the preachers, united with the bishop and the Pope, drawing through earnest efiorts from the source of Christ, it receives the truth, the real unadulterated truth of the infallible Church. But this living authority of teaching, with its rich organs of life, is at all times capable and prepared to correct at once all possible deviations from the truth. But all this limitation the preacher does not find to be a burden, but rather a binding to that truth which makes us free. Book The Companion to the Catechism of The Catholic Church

Download or read book The Companion to the Catechism of The Catholic Church written by St Ignatius and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2010-02-19 with total page 986 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Catechism of the Catholic Church reads "often the texts of Sacred Scripture are not quoted literally but merely indicated as a reference ('Cf.') in the footnotes. For a deeper understanding of those passages, the reader should go to the texts themselves. These Biblical references are a working tool for catechesis." This Companion to the Catechism of the Catholic Church Book of References contains all the passages of Sacred Scripture referred to in the Catechism arranged according to the paragraphs in which the references are made. But that is only a beginning. The Catechism also refers to conciliar texts, papal documents, writings of the Fathers and of the Saints. There are more than 3,600 of these references extending from the earliest credal formulations of the ancient Church to the documents of Vatican II and beyond to the magisterial teaching of Pope John Paul II. The Book of References includes all the texts referred to arranged, along with the Scripture passages, according to the paragraphs of the Catechism in which they are referred. This Book of References is a valuable instrument in teaching, understanding, and implementing the Catechism. It is a handy one-volume reference library for use with the Catechism. "... I ask the Church's pastors and the Christian faithful to receive this Catechism in a spirit of communion and to use it assiduously in fulfilling their mission of proclaiming the faith and calling people to the Gospel life." Pope John Paul II

Book The Joy of the Gospel

Download or read book The Joy of the Gospel written by Pope Francis and published by Image. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing his inspiration from the ministerial tradition of the Church as well as from Scripture, the author shows how the New Testament is the text for the pastoral life of the Church. He moves beyond "interpretation of Scripture for understanding", to break the new ground of "interpretation for communication". He carefully and systematically elaborates distinct methods for interpreting the New Testament and applying it to evangelization, catechesis, homiletics and prayer, while effectively disposing of problems that prevent its fruitful use.

  • ISBN : 0385516924
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Letter and Spirit written by Scott Hahn and published by Image. This book was released on 2005-11-08 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bestselling author of The Lamb’s Supper continues his thoughtful exploration of the complex relationship between the Bible and the Catholic liturgy in a revelatory work that will appeal to all readers. Scott Hahn has inspired millions of readers with his perceptive and unique view of Catholic theology and worship, becoming one of the most looked-to contemporary authorities in these areas. In Letter and Spirit, Hahn extends the message he began in The Lamb’s Supper, offering far-reaching and profound insights into what the Bible teaches us about living the spiritual life. For both Christians and Jews, the texts of the Bible are not simply records of historical events. They are intended, through public recitations in churches and synagogues, to bring listeners and readers into the sweeping story of redemption as it unfolds in the Bible. Focusing on the Catholic Mass, Hahn describes how God’s Word is meant to open our eyes to the life-giving power of the sacraments, and how the liturgy brings about the “actualization” of the saving truths of Scripture. Letter and Spirit is a stunningly original contribution to the field of biblical studies and will help Hahn’s many loyal and enthusiastic readers understand the relationship between the Bible and the Mass in a deeper way.
