Book Second Homes and Leisure

Download or read book Second Homes and Leisure written by Trudie Walters and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Second homes (variously summer houses, shacks, baches, cottages, dacha) are a popular cultural phenomenon in many countries and an emerging trend in others. They are inextricably linked to tourism, recreation and leisure, and yet the fundamental relationship between second homes and leisure often appears to have been overlooked by researchers in the area. This book seeks to address this absence, bringing together an exciting collection of research from around the world. Drawing on examples from Canada, Japan, Morocco, Costa Rica, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, this book highlights the interdisciplinary nature of second home research in the leisure field. The book describes the nexus of second homes and leisure from a variety of perspectives: planning and policy, historical, social and cultural. It is an essential work for those interested in new cultural viewpoints on second homes and leisure practices. This book was originally published as a special issue of Annals of Leisure Research.

Book A History of Domestic Space

Download or read book A History of Domestic Space written by Peter Ward and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 1999-10-07 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a history of domestic space in Canada. Peter Ward looks at how spaces in the Canadian home have changed over the last three centuries, and how family and social relationships have shaped -- and been shaped by -- these changing spaces. A fundamental element of daily life for individuals and families is domestic privacy, that of individuals and that of the family or household. There are also two facets of privacy -- privacy from and privacy to. Personal privacy sets the individual apart from the group, creating opportunities for seclusion. Family privacy draws boundaries between the household and the community, defending the solidarity of the home and providing a basis for family relationships. In both ways, privacy is intimately involved with the history of the house. Over time, the changing size, shape, and location of the home have created widely different opportunities for family and personal privacy. Together with major shifts in household composition, family size, and domestic technology, they have gradually altered the conditions of everyday domestic life. But the pattern of change has been far from uniform, for the nature, meaning, and experience of privacy in Canadian have varied widely over the past 300 years. This book explores some of those experiences and meanings, reflecting on their impllications for family and social life historically as well as in the recent past.

Download or read book Investing in Condominiums written by Brian Persaud and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-11-21 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lot of information has been published for those who wish to buy a condo as a principal residence, but not for investors who want to expand into the condominium market. Investing in condominiums is not about being caught up in the mass hysteria of lining up to buy a pre-construction unit in a "hot neighbourhood" and hopefully flipping it at a profit when it's built. On the contrary, investing in condos can be a very good way to generate solid returns when done according to the proven strategies outlined in the book. Investing in Condominiums will show readers the ins and outs of profitable condo investing by sticking to investing fundamentals, carrying out proper due diligence, and having an exit plan. Pre-construction condominiums, especially in Toronto and Vancouver are sought-after by both Canadian and international investors. The stable economy, low-interest rate environment, and appreciating values are a recipe for investor success. Investing in Condominiums gives Canadian investors the nuts and bolts of undertaking such an investment based on real-life examples and expert knowledge. By reading this book, the investor can proceed with full confidence knowing that they are asking the right questions, doing the math, and assembling the right team of experts that will help them realize their investment goals.
