Book My Humble Beginning and the Journey Continues

Download or read book My Humble Beginning and the Journey Continues written by Cyndy Vanzandt and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-12-11 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prayer is a force that is beyond us and fulfills the purpose of God, and the purposes of God are depending on prayer. The word of God says, “Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, where is their God.” (Joel 2:17 KJV). Therefore, we need to repent and ask God to give us a burden for the lost. We need to grieve with the things that grieve the Holy Spirit; like apathy, prayerlessness, no convictions, no fear of God and being lukewarm.

Book The Homecoming

Download or read book The Homecoming written by Dorothy Wofford Witherspoon and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laura Wofford (ca. 1840-191?), a slave living in Meridian, Mississippi, was the mother of Joe, Tom and Ben Wofford. She was probably born in South Carolina. The father of her three sons was a white farmer named Isaac Owen Crosthwait (1848-1902) who had moved from Alabama to Mississippi about 1854. Joe moved to Arkansas about 1908/1909, and Tom moved about 1917/1918. Laura was still alive in 1910, and possibly died when Tom moved to Arkansas. Ben remained in Mississippi, as did Mary, one of Laura's daughter. Descendants and relatives lived in Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Indiana, Missouri and elsewhere. Includes some family history of the white slaveowners of the Wofford, Brinker and Lottie slaves.

Book New Hampshire Old Home Celebrations

Download or read book New Hampshire Old Home Celebrations written by Gary Crooker and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2009-06-01 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1899, when many New Hampshire residents were moving to cities and other parts of the nation, Frank Rollins, soon to become governor of New Hampshire, delivered a proposal to hold an annual event he dubbed Old Home Week. Similar in form to many of the family and town picnics already a tradition throughout New Hampshire, Old Home Week was designed as an open invitation to all the former residents of the Granite State to return to the homes of their youth. In addition to the ballgames, picnics, parades, and bonfires that were held during the third week of August, the celebrations resulted in municipal improvements across the state. Old homesteads were refurbished as summer homes, and libraries and monuments sprung up throughout the region as residents returned, creating a movement toward a renewed pride in the community.

Book Crossing the Aisle

Download or read book Crossing the Aisle written by Keel Hunt and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latter third of the twentieth century was a time of fundamental political transition across the South as increasing numbers of voters began to choose Republican candidates over Democrats. Yet in the 1980s and '90s, reform-focused policymaking—from better schools to improved highways and health care—flourished in Tennessee. This was the work of moderate leaders from both parties who had a capacity to work together "across the aisle." The Tennessee story, as the Pulitzer Prize–winning author Jon Meacham observes in his foreword to this book, offers striking examples of bipartisan cooperation on many policy fronts—and a mode of governing that provides lessons for America in this frustrating era of partisan stalemate. When the writer envisions the caravan headed by Naomi, the writer sees Naomi, walking first, Orpah second and Ruth walking behind Naomi and Orpah. So, read and enjoy the story of this fascinating strong, faithfuland brave woman called Orpah.
