A confidential questionnaire was developed which was provided to all employees (see Appendix D) of the immediate department. On October 1, 1996 the beach safety division was merged within the fire department, and they were not a part of this survey. An evaluation of the current procedures for identifying, reporting and handling a claim of discrimination and/or harassment was made to assure compliance with city, state and federal mandates. Necessary changes were made to existing policies, and an educational process was initiated informing all department members as to methods for reporting defamatory or disciminatory acts, in an attempt to insure a suitable work environment, for all employees.
