The number of HIV notifications newly diagnosed in Australia has remained stable for the past four years, though - at 0.1% - the prevalence of people living with HIV in Australia is low compared to other high income countries and countries in the region. The overall notification rate of hepatitis C notification has also remained stable, it has increased by 43% in the past five years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
