Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tom resented her already, and when she began to spank his little sister, that was just too much. He was at the table and picked up a butcher knife, and then he turned and ran out the door. She hollered, "You just wait until your papa gets home." Tom knew he was in serious trouble. He started crying and running. He didn't know where he was going, only he knew he couldn't go back. He ran and cried until he came to their church building. He crawled under the building and started crying again. He must have cried himself to sleep because the next thing he heard was someone calling his name. He heard his papa say, "Just wait until I get hold of that kid." Tom lay real still until he couldn't hear them anymore. It was pitch-dark, and he was so scared and didn't know what to do. Every noise he heard he thought something was after him, so he crawled out and started running. He cried and ran all night on a dirt road with no shoes or shirt. Then he looked up to see this man coming toward him. He had a star on his shirt. He came up beside him and said, "Howdy, son, have you ran away from home? What is your name?" Tom knew better than to give his real name. About that time, a man came up and spoke to the lawman. He said, "No, he is with me."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As with everyone, we all go down the path of life. Sometimes that path becomes rough and dangerous, and sometimes the path is just the opposite. So it is with James York. Set in the 1800s this story is a novel based on reality about a person who was forced to leave his loved ones at an early age. He was constantly attacked by hostile natives and raised by the Shoshone who lived near the Snake River. James York becomes a great Shoshone warrior and mountain man feared by his enemies, while being honored by friends. He stepped out of the white mans world and entered an Native American world, almost totally purging all that was white in him. He did this only to be forced back in the white world again, and in doing so, there is a battle within him between the red man and white mans world. With all the pain he must go through in his life, he seems to be able to cope and adapt. As his spirit guide said to him, You will live for a long time and have many children. Also there will be some sadness and some happiness. You will be feared by some, as well as admired by others, and you will have great wealth. His spirit guide was correct. He did live long and had the wealth of many descendants, as well as fortune, and his stature was known in America and Britain.

Book excerpt: In this fourth volume of the “Secrets of the Forest” series, outdoor educator Mark Warren describes the details of how to make and operate the tools that hurl projectiles toward a target including: · “firing” techniques of a sling, spear, atl-atl, bow and arrow, throwing knife, tomahawk, and blowgun. · a comprehensive lesson in the art of archery that includes the direct, lob, and clout shots, as well as shooting at a moving target. · primitive precision methods of creating your own Cherokee self-bow and rivercane arrows. · cementing projectile skills through a gamut of games and challenges. The second half of the book provides lessons on tandem canoeing, beginning on a lake or pond and evolving to whitewater. The pre-education of paddling starts on a creek with a self-made model boat to understand the dynamics of moving water. On the lake, using a full-sized canoe, paddlers learn how to take control of their craft. Once on current, paddlers are introduced to the never-relenting march of moving water, a phenomenon that must figure into every river maneuver, from planning routes by “reading” the water, eddy turns, lateral ferry maneuvers, peel-outs, hovering in place, and running rapids “dry,” to river-rescue of capsized boats and “swimmers,” and the joy and instruction of slalom. This volume contains more than two hundred original adventures.

In Portsmouth, England, an aircraft carrier has been sabotaged, killing the American Chief of Naval Operations, one of the few friends the Rogue Warrior had left in the Navy. Marcinko discovers a holy war is brewing—a violent religious movement, encircling the globe and zeroing in on the West. Defeating that menace will be the supreme test of Marcinko's GREEN TEAM, a top-secret unit operating outside the U.S. military's chain of command. But in Washington, the political wolves select Dick Marcinko as their sacrificial lamb. For the Rogue Warrior it's time to declare a holy war of his own.
