Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Foster's Comic History of Oklahoma Facts are the framework of history, and history is a record of the past, although some of the makers of history are ashamed of their past record; but this history is no respecter of persons. The Artist and the Author both have a great regard for facts, and we have never in our lives spoken disrespectfully of them. History records the doings of individuals, and we have tried to picture these individuals, not as they appeared when posing for their photograph, but as they were seen in the eyes of the general public while they were making history for the general public and posterity. The facts in the case are that we got them with their every-day clothes on. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History and Civics of Oklahoma While Oklahoma is the youngest of the states, yet it had a considerable population almost a generation earlier than any of the states west of those that border the Mississippi, Texas alone excepted. Here we find much the best example of a prolonged effort of the aborigines of the United States to de velop their own civilization in their own way. The history of this effort should be of interest to every student of American institutions. How much of this civilization was due to white influence and how much can be credited to Indian initiative must be left to the judgment of the reader. Book A History of the State of Oklahoma Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book A History of the State of Oklahoma Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Luther B. Hill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-24 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the State of Oklahoma, Vol. 1 In presenting A History of the State of Oklahoma the publishers feel that little explanation is necessary. The work describes the evolution of a state, and has been prepared according to the original design that it should be a standard, comprehensive and authentic reference work. As a casual examination will show, the history is based upon the original sources, and authorities are quoted to prove practically every assertion made. It should be stated that this is a pioneer work in this field; that no previous attempt has been successfully made to compile, on such an extensive scale, the historical informa tion that pertains to Oklahoma and the Indian Territory. The material for such an undertaking does not exist within the State of Oklahoma, the records being available in the larger collections of older libraries and in the government archives. For the events of later years, much valuable information has been obtained from individuals in Okla homa and elsewhere. In the preparation of the history the author is particularly indebted to Hon. Sidney Clarke, of Oklahoma City, who besides furnishing a large amount of data in the nature of documents and manuscript, has also read the greater portion of the general history and has given the benefit of his wide personal knowledge in revising and correcting the historical material. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of Oklahoma and Indian Territory: And Homeseekeker's Guide Dutcher then informed the prisoners that if they would take him to where they Ob tained their salt he would spare their lives. So they lead him up the river about 60 miles to the salt springs near what is now known as the Cherokee Orphan Asylum. The entire country and those Springs were claimed by the Osages at that time, and the Osages were accustomed to taking pay in ponies from the other tribes that were permitted to secure salt there. But 'dutcher wasn't built that way. He didn't believe in giving up ponies for salt or anything else. He believed in getting all he could, and 'in keeping all he could get. So, there was trouble over the salt springs, but the Cherokees secured all the salt thev wanted, and then went on back to their home. Book Oklahoma Civics and History Classic Reprint

Download or read book Oklahoma Civics and History Classic Reprint written by Charles Evans and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Oklahoma Civics and History Second, it is adapted to every factor of the school; the pupil, the teacher, and the home. To the pupil it is inductive, outlined, clearly indexed, and annotated. In style it is simple, and explana tory. Too often, in building a text, we fail to clothe the skeleton of dry fact with the flesh and blood of human interest. We have earnestly endeavored to avoid that mistake, and if we have done so we have special claim to consideration at the hands of those who are seeking to build well for the school child. It follows that to the teacher it extends the same virtues afforded to the pupil. To the home it pays special tribute. The family, school, and all phases of local government have been deeply stressed, in order that boys and girls may have a proper conception of the home, and its environment. Further, it should be a valuable addition to the family library, for it contains the only authentic comprehen sive compilation of the state constitution, exhaustively cross indexed. In this connection, let it be understood that the topical index preceding each article of the constitution, and the section numbers and words immediately following in black-faced type, are notes and annotations, and are no part of the original instrument. Third, it has sought by quotations, illustrations, songs, and earnest language, to incite patriotic fervor. It is well to know of our government, state and national, but it is infinitely better to love, and be proud of them.
