This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 880 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Town of Sullivan, New Hampshire, 1777-1917, Vol. 2 All families which have resided in Sullivan, so far as we have been enabled to procure a record of them, will be registered in the following genealogies in the alphabetical order of the surnames of the families. We are not aware that we have omitted any family. It is possible that some family which has lived at East Sullivan, or possibly elsewhere in the town, without acquiring any legal residence, has been overlooked. Hired men who have simply paid p'oll taxes in town have not usually been registered. We think that we have omitted no family that rightfully belongs here, but would be glad to be notified if we have done so. Of some families, however, our information is less complete than we could have wished. This is not through any lack of effort on our part. There are some persons who never answer letters, some who cannot do so, and others whose addresses we could not find. We have aimed to give true dates, even if the dates given by the family registers differed. Dates on headstones are often inaccurate. Family registers in Bibles and elsewhere are not infallible. Life is real! Life is earnest! The New England psalmist sings a true note: New England people as a rule have been accustomed to take life earnestly, to improve its opportunities for advancement and enlargement, for using and strengthening native talent, for developing the resources of their rugged region, for cultivating the sterner human virt'ues, working manfully and womanfully in various fields, and diverse ways to leave the world better than they found it. The name and fame Of not a few New Englanders Of worth and influence in Colonial and later times have been preserved in history; but of many others it can only be said that, beyond a name and a date or two that have rewarded the labors Of the genealogist, they have left no memorial. Efforts are being made by the present generation to give honor where honor is due, to testify its regard for living and for recently departed worthies by making and keeping a fuller record of individuals who have distinguished themselves by usefulness in word and deed, brave rebuke of wrong, and gallant championship of justice and right, - persons who have earned the title of public benefactors. This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Unwritten History of the New Hampshire Historical Society Building I have been impressed since the dedication of the New Hampshire Historical Society Building that there still remained a historical residuum worthy to be noticed and remembered. By this I mean a chapter in our annals that has never been written. While the history of the Society, from its foundation nearly a century ago down to the opening of our beautiful building, has been written and preserved for all time, and the description of the building and its charms and richness similarly treated, there seemed to be wanting something to complete the narrative. And that something I denominate a historical residuum. In the objective point of view nothing perhaps has been left unwritten, but subjectively the fact is otherwise.
