Download or read book In Their Footsteps written by Arnold E. Palmer and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-11-04 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Their Footsteps is a Genealogical compilation of approximately 900 individuals and the story of how this Palmer Family came to be and where it came from. As one might expect, the geography of a complicated genealogy such as this one has several disparate locations of importance. Thankfully, these ancestors chose to cluster around a select few well documented locales: New England, lower New York State, Northeastern New Jersey, Central New York State and the upper Saint John River valley in New Brunswick, Canada. It also tells the story of how and why Samuel Benson Leydecker chose exile in the wilderness of New Brunswick over the prospects of staying in the Hackensack River valley of New Jersey after the American Revolution.

Download or read book The New Cambridge History of American Foreign Relations Volume 1 Dimensions of the Early American Empire 1754 1865 written by William Earl Weeks and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since their first publication, the four volumes of the Cambridge History of American Foreign Relations have served as the definitive source for the topic, from the colonial period to the Cold War. This entirely new first volume narrates the British North American colonists' pre-existing desire for expansion, security and prosperity and argues that these desires are both the essence of American foreign relations and the root cause for the creation of the United States. They required the colonists to unite politically, as individual colonies could not dominate North America by themselves. Although ingrained localist sentiments persisted, a strong, durable Union was required for mutual success, thus American nationalism was founded on the idea of allegiance to the Union. Continued tension between the desire for expansion and the fragility of the Union eventually resulted in the Union's collapse and the Civil War.
