He married Maria Magdalena Hoffman 15 June 1848 in Millstadt, Illinois. They were the parents of two children, one of whom died in infancy. Maria died 1 Oct 1851. He married Mrs. Christina Magdalena Lauterwasser Walz in 1852. They were the parents of three children. She died 11 Mar 1885. He died 22 Jan 1893 in Millstadt, Illinois. .
