T. W. Sweeney of the Regular Army, as sumed command of the Regiment, and on the l6th, in obedience to orders received, embarked on boat for Fort Donelson, Ky., under command of Col. T. W. Sweeney, where we arrived early on the morning of the 17th, just in time to be assigned to the unpleasant duty of guarding rebel prisoners. On the morning of the 18th, the Regiment, on several different boats, loaded With prisoners, started down the river for St, Louis, where we arrived on the 20th, and were then ordered to proceed with the prisoners to Spring field and Chicago.
