Book Historical Manual of the Reformed Church in the United States Classic Reprint

Download or read book Historical Manual of the Reformed Church in the United States Classic Reprint written by Joseph Henry Dubbs and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Historical Manual of the Reformed Church in the United States It was found, however, that at least one publication of this order was already in existence, and upon reflection and consultation he was induced to change his plan, and to prepare a volume consisting mainly of historical sketches illustrative of the history of the Reformed Church from the days of the Reformation down to the present time. Some of these sketches were, at the time of their composition, printed in "The Guardian," a monthly magazine of which the author is editor, and though not strictly consecutive they are inserted in deference to the wishes of partial friends. In its present farm the book is intended to serve a double purpose. While it furnishes reading for the family, it also claims to be useful as a book of reference by enabling the reader to trace the career of individual ministers and the chronological order of the meetings of ecclesiastical bodies. In the preparation of Book I., which relates to the Church in Europe, the writer has by preference consulted works whose authors have been members of the Reformed Church. Among these may be mentioned: "Leben der Vater und Begrunder der Reformirten Kirche," 10 vols., Elberfeld, 1857; Max Goebel's "Geschichte des Christlichen Lebens in der rheinisch-west-phalischen evangelischen Kirche," 4 vols., Coblenz, 1849; Heppe's "Protestantismus," 2 vols., Marburg, 1852; and Cuno's "Gedachtnissbuch deutscher Fursten und Furstinnen reformirten Bekenntnisses," Barmen, 1884. The author has also frequently referred to the writings of Herzog, Ebrard, and Lange, as well as to the more usual German and English authorities on the history of the Reformation. Book Manual of Reformed Stoicism

Download or read book Manual of Reformed Stoicism written by Piotr Stankiewicz and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2020-06-02 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a manifesto of reformed Stoicism. It proposes a system of life which is bullet-proof, universal, viable and effective in every cosmic setting. It holds in every possible universe, under any government and within any economic system. We can be reformed Stoics no matter what we believe in. Reformed Stoicism is about enjoying and exercising our agency. In other words, it’s about the flow of making autonomous and right decisions, and about celebrating our ability to make them. With no reliance on nature, with the recalibration of metaphysical positions, with skepticism towards grand discourses and universal answers, with an emphasis on the usefulness instead of truthfulness of narratives, with no reference to the vanity argument, with criticism of both conservative and ascetic misinterpretations of Stoicism, with an overall softer and more empathic approach, we can no longer be defined by the generic term “Stoicism”. Our time, in short, calls for a fresh interpretation of Stoicism. It is time for a new generation of Stoics. Thus: reformed Stoicism.

This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church in North America But to give interest to the names, it was necessary to give the respective settle ments of each - ma task which, if it had been fully realized at the beginning, would hardly have been undertaken. Thus the Triennial Catalogue grew into this Manual which, therefore, presents a complete list of all the ministers of our Church, with their respective settlements, and the dates of reception to and dismission from each. To give completeness to the work, it was deemed necessary to add a list of the Synods, Classes, and Churches, with their respective dates of organization. That there should be no errors in a work of this kind, could not be expected. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
