It was no different when I caught my accountant selling club secrets to my enemies-I made him suffer. The rat had a daughter, and it was only fitting to wipe out the bastard's bloodline. When I had Ally Prixman at my mercy, things didn't go according to plan. There was something captivating about the curvy blonde, and I couldn't pull the trigger. Instead, I offered to keep her as a plaything. She'd fulfill all my sexual fantasies until I bored of her, then she could have her freedom. Ally had no choice but to agree. And I didn't expect to keep her for long. Ally: He killed my estranged father and wanted me dead. For some reason he decided to have mercy on me, although I'm not so sure being Lord's sex toy is much better than death. He's the leader of the Straight to Hell MC and known for his brutality. Surely he won't have mercy on me for being a virgin.I'm mad at myself for not hating my situation more, but I'm impossibly attracted to Lord. His scars and tattoos don't scare me, and it doesn't take long for me to fall for the biker. I have to remind myself I'm only a temporary part of the club. Lord's only using me up until he spits me out. Some men just aren't capable of love.

Book Bea Palya s I ll Be Your Plaything

Download or read book Bea Palya s I ll Be Your Plaything written by András Rónai and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2022-01-13 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, the state-run music industry in Hungary has artificially isolated musical worlds. The 2010 album I'll Be Your Plaything is a concept album comprising at times drastically re-imagined cover versions of Hungary's most popular hits from the socialist era. As such it is a testament to music as a medium's aptness to reflect on public and personal pasts. The album moreover exemplifies how rich and appealing synthesis of sounds and traditions can be concocted when folk, classically trained, rock, and jazz musical artists collaborate. Along with this freedom to blend and synthesize, the album opens up some long overdue space for women; playing with personas, voices, and singing styles, Palya reflects on issues of femininity, maternity, sexuality, and coupledom across generations.

Book excerpt: A hallucinatory, fragmentary, and tragic fictional telling of one of the most fa- mous psychotherapy cases in history, A lex Pheby’s Playthings offers a visceral and darkly comic portrait of paranoid schizophrenia. Book Play as Symbol of the World

Download or read book Play as Symbol of the World written by Eugen Fink and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eugen Fink is considered one of the clearest interpreters of phenomenology and was the preferred conversational partner of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger. In Play as Symbol of the World, Fink offers an original phenomenology of play as he attempts to understand the world through the experience of play. He affirms the philosophical significance of play, why it is more than idle amusement, and reflects on the movement from "child's play" to "cosmic play." Well-known for its nontechnical, literary style, this skillful translation by Ian Alexander Moore and Christopher Turner invites engagement with Fink's philosophy of play and related writings on sports, festivals, and ancient cult practices.

Book Philosophy s Gambit Play and Being Played

Download or read book Philosophy s Gambit Play and Being Played written by Jeremy Sampson and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2025-01-07 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living in an era of immense and bewildering change in technology, pandemic and war, humanity has had cause to challenge the apparent old fixities and certainties of life. Essentially, are we being played? The premise of this volume is that all of human life is underpinned by powerful dynamic systems, so tightly interwoven into our daily lives that we are barely aware of them, whose true nature only comes to light at times of profound disruption or crisis. These powerful dynamic systems, philosophical or otherwise, often fall under the umbrella of ludic theory. Within these pages, some of the leading thinkers of ludic theory from three continents explore its diversity and relevance through the perspectives of some of the world’s most famous philosophers. In many ways, this volume follows on from Sampson’s 'Being Played: Gadamer and Philosophy’s Hidden Dynamic' (2019). It also draws upon other ludic-centred and ludic-inspired texts that include Mattice’s 'Metaphor and Metaphilosophy' (2014) and Arthos’ 'Gadamer’s Poetics: A Critique of Modern Aesthetics' (2014), together with Frazier’s 'Reality, Religion and Passion' (2009) and Homan’s 'A Hermeneutics of Poetic Education' (2020). Although this is not the first volume offering an integrated approach to ludic theory, see Ryall (ed), 'The Philosophy of Play' (2013), it offers a diverse and detailed approach to the subject, including not only Western philosophers, but also thinkers from Ancient China, 16th-century India and modern South America. This volume will be not only of interest to scholars and students of ludic theory and philosophy in general, but because of its deliberate globalised content, it is hoped it might have a wider appeal globally as humanity continues to grapple with significant challenges created by these current winds of change.

Book Word Play

  • Author : Ainsley Morse
  • Publisher : Northwestern University Press
  • Release : 2021-03-15
  • ISBN : 0810143291
  • Pages : 265 pages

Download or read book Word Play written by Ainsley Morse and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-15 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Word Play traces the history of the relationship between experimental aesthetics and Soviet children’s books, a relationship that persisted over the seventy years of the Soviet Union’s existence. From the earliest days of the Soviet project, children’s literature was taken unusually seriously—its quality and subject matter were issues of grave political significance. Yet, it was often written and illustrated by experimental writers and artists who found the childlike aesthetic congenial to their experiments in primitivism, minimalism, and other avant‐garde trends. In the more repressive environment following Stalin’s rise to power, experimental aesthetics were largely relegated to unofficial and underground literature, but unofficial writers continued to author children’s books, which were often more appealing than adult literature of the time. Word Play focuses on poetry as the primary genre for both children’s and unofficial literature throughout the Soviet period. Five case studies feature poets‐cum‐children’s writers—Leonid Aronzon, Oleg Grigoriev, Igor Kholin, Vsevolod Nekrasov, and Dmitri Prigov—whose unpublished work was not written for children but features lexical and formal elements, abundant humor, and childlike lyric speakers that are aspects of the childlike aesthetic. The book concludes with an exploration of the legacy of this aesthetic in Russian poetry today. Drawing on rich primary sources, Word Play joins a growing literature on Russian children’s books, connecting them to avant-garde poetics in fresh, surprising ways.
