On the contrary, death has brought about several new possibilities. This vengeful person knows how to gain immeasurable power, and also where to find others willing to join in this dark, bloody cause. Foremost among those is the one referred to as the Harbinger. And what do we have to oppose this new, terrible threat to mankind? Well, not much the good guys are sadly lacking in both numbers and power. But, as they say, it aint over until the fat lady sings. The fattest lady in this book is Emkei and she doesnt sing, neither at the end nor anywhere else. Harbinger is the hilarious sequel to Scion, in which B.A. Seloaf both introduces us to a number of unforgettable new characters and lets us meet some of our old favorites. When all of them end up together in the depths of the African jungle, things are bound to happen that not even the most imaginative mind could have predicted.

Book American Hippo

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sarah Gailey
  • Publisher : Tordotcom
  • Release : 2018-05-22
  • ISBN : 1250176425
  • Pages : 288 pages

Download or read book American Hippo written by Sarah Gailey and published by Tordotcom. This book was released on 2018-05-22 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2017 Sarah Gailey made her debut with River of Teeth and Taste of Marrow, two action-packed novellas that introduced readers to an alternate America in which hippos rule the colossal swamp that was once the Mississippi River. Now readers have the chance to own both novellas in American Hippo, a single, beautiful volume. Years ago, in an America that never was, the United States government introduced herds of hippos to the marshlands of Louisiana to be bred and slaughtered as an alternative meat source. This plan failed to take into account some key facts about hippos: they are savage, they are fast, and their jaws can snap a man in two. By the 1890s, the vast bayou that was once America's greatest waterway belongs to feral hippos, and Winslow Houndstooth has been contracted to take it back. To do so, he will gather a crew of the damnedest cons, outlaws, and assassins to ever ride a hippo. American Hippo is the story of their fortunes, their failures, and his revenge. • ISBN : 0691121583
  • Pages : 324 pages

Download or read book On Gaia written by Toby Tyrrell and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-21 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A critical examination of James Lovelock's controversial Gaia hypothesis One of the enduring questions about our planet is how it has remained continuously habitable over vast stretches of geological time despite the fact that its atmosphere and climate are potentially unstable. James Lovelock's Gaia hypothesis posits that life itself has intervened in the regulation of the planetary environment in order to keep it stable and favorable for life. First proposed in the 1970s, Lovelock's hypothesis remains highly controversial and continues to provoke fierce debate. On Gaia undertakes the first in-depth investigation of the arguments put forward by Lovelock and others—and concludes that the evidence doesn't stack up in support of Gaia. Toby Tyrrell draws on the latest findings in fields as diverse as climate science, oceanography, atmospheric science, geology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. He takes readers to obscure corners of the natural world, from southern Africa where ancient rocks reveal that icebergs were once present near the equator, to mimics of cleaner fish on Indonesian reefs, to blind fish deep in Mexican caves. Tyrrell weaves these and many other intriguing observations into a comprehensive analysis of the major assertions and lines of argument underpinning Gaia, and finds that it is not a credible picture of how life and Earth interact. On Gaia reflects on the scientific evidence indicating that life and environment mutually affect each other, and proposes that feedbacks on Earth do not provide robust protection against the environment becoming uninhabitable—or against poor stewardship by us.
