Book Hints on Horsemanship Classic Reprint

Download or read book Hints on Horsemanship Classic Reprint written by M. F. McTaggart and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hints on Horsemanship Just before the commencement of the war, I started, through the courtesy of the editor of the Field, publishing a series of articles on horsemanship. This series was rudely interrupted by the outbreak of war, and my military duties precluded my taking any further steps for a considerable period. But after fighting in France continuously for nearly four years, it was my fate, through the fortune of war, to be taken prisoner. Taking advantage of the enforced leisure at my disposal, I have passed many an otherwise weary hour in compiling this little volume. If it gives any of my readers as much pleasure to read as it has given me to write, I shall be fully rewarded; but it is more than I can hope that they will finish the last page with as much regret as I felt on the conclusion of my task. Now that peace has been declared and we can, once more, resume the pleasures of the hunting field, of racing, polo, and the show-ring, I am at last able to place my MSS. into the hands of the publishers. Download or read book Hints on Horsemanship to a Nephew and Niece written by George Greenwood and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hints on Horsemanship, to a Nephew and Niece: Or Common Sense and Common Errors in Common Riding When you wish to turn to the right, pull the right rein stronger than the left this is common sense. The common error is precisely the reverse: the common error is, when you wish to turn to the right, to pass the hand to the right. By this, the right rein is slackened, and the left rein is tight ened, across the horse's neck; and the horse is required to turn to the right, when the left rein is pulled. It is to correct this common error, this monstrous and perpetual source of bad riding, and bad usage to good animals, that these pages are written. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Original Handbook for Riders: A Complete Guide to Modern Horsemanship Having been frequently asked by my pupils for some simple work on horsemanship, which they might study in connection with their practical riding lessons, I have undertaken to supply that apparent want by writing this book. It contains nothing new to the fully experienced rider; those less experienced will, it is hoped, find in it the necessary assistance. If so, my purpose will be achieved, and still more so, if it may lead to a more rational and humane treatment of our most noble domestic animal, the Horse. Book The Saddle Horse

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Saddle-Horse: A Complete Guide for Riding and Training The young horse soon becomes tractable, and, as long as his temper is unruffied, he desires to do that which is required of him. Until the spirit of rebellion is awak ened, he is as anxious to avoid the perils of battle as his master should be. If, upon an occasion, he declines to perform some movement that is required of him, let his attention he turned to that which will please him, and his obedience in this will induce his obedience afterwards to the first demand. To give up to him after a battle will confirm his obstinacy, but he will soon forget his unnoticed defiance. Under proper treatment he will in time yield to the will of his master, without dreaming of resistance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Art of Horsemanship Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Art of Horsemanship Classic Reprint written by Xenophon Xenophon and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-07 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Art of Horsemanship Among technical treatises, that of Xenophon on Horsemanship is almost unique in one particular. Even after more than twenty-three centuries it is still, in the main, a sound and excellent guide for so much of the field as.it covers. This fact, together with the simple and delightful manner in which the subject is treated, has led me to think that some who are not able or do not care to approach the book in the original Greek, might like to read a translation of the earliest known work on the horse and how to ride him. To be sure, there have already been versions in English; but these seem to me, and have seemed to others, unsatisfactory. My translation is made from the Greek text of Dindorf's Oxford edition. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Saddle-Horse: A Complete Guide for Riding and Training The rapidly-growing fondness for horseback riding, among ladies as well as gentlemen, has created a large demand for a work on Saddle-Horses. We know of no writings so thoroughly practical and useful, and so completely covering the subject, as the various papers of Col. Geo. E. Waring, Jr., heretofore printed in the "American Agriculturist." We have accordingly brought these together in the present volume, supplementing them with a small work by E. L. Anderson, who is in England regarded as a standard authority. Any one, lady or gentleman, young or old, who desires to acquire the art of horsemanship, will find all that is required in this book.
