Book Highway Madness the Plain Truth Volume 1

Download or read book Highway Madness the Plain Truth Volume 1 written by Terrance Maddox and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004-10-19 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry, prose, and safety insights make this the handbook of the motorist choice. After years of vengeful driving, the truck-driving author, Terrance T. Maddox, has written this book from his many years of driving experience. I started driving tractor-trailors many years ago. I have made more than my share of mistakes along the way. Fortunately, no one has been injured or killed due to my own stupidity. Accidents are caused, they dont just happen. Road hazards, obstacles, or someone simply not paying attention is a threat to humanity. Reading and learning the contents of this book could save the lives of you and others by knowing these hazards and how to protect yourself from them. Be sure to read Terrance T. Maddoxs other books in this unique, and often delightfully humorous, series he calls, Highway Madness, The Plain Truth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I had planned to write a few poems, and send them and slogans in to the (ATA) American Trucking Association, or maybe the (NSC) National Safety Council but all that changed and turned into this book. I sincerely hope you enjoy and benefit from it. If you get even one-half of the safety tips and use them in everyday life I will feel I have succeeded in my goal for writing this book. I feel this book will open the eyes of a lot of drivers, just knowing the hazards so you can avoid them while youre traveling. Some of the poems contained in this book have a few paragraphs of inspiration. I did not write this book to downgrade or offend anyone. If any part of this book hits home with you, then that probably was its meaning. I wrote this book hoping to share knowledge with everyone concerned. I think everyone should know the plain truth about highway hazards. So, enter my world, and I hope that you get as much enjoyment out of reading it as I had in writing it! Before I started driving tractor\trailers, I didnt know anything about them. I knew they were big, and as a kid I guess I had my share of encouraging truckers to blow the big truck air horns! (From the back seat of my mothers car.) It would tickle me to excitement, the louder the horn, the more excited I became. Then I heard my first train horn on a big truck I was so excited I almost wet my pants! This was about as good as it gets!! As an over-the-road truck-driver, I have been operating a commercial vehicle for many, many years. In these years of driving, I have seen drivers do things that were so incredibly stupid, childish and irresponsible that I am still amazed! Now, to define the word DRIVER, in this book it would be anyone who operates a motor vehicle of any kind; whether car, truck, motorcycle, etc.Everyone on the road, and even some that are not, are subject to hazards from the highway. You do not have to be a driver to become part of a highway catastrophe. Accidents happen everyday involving innocent people such as construction workers, roadside mowers, even people working in their own yards and children playing outside.I could go on and on!No one seems to be safe anymore from hazards of the highways. On, how we all like to live in the fast lane, and wed all like to be where were going before even getting into our vehicle. However, it just doesnt work that way. There is only one way to get where you are going, and that consists of traveling time. One way or the other, whatever mode you get, you will have to travel!Traveling is as safe as we allow it to be. We are in control of our own safety, as well as others in our charge.Safety is controlled by the mind of each person. It is up to you to make the right decisions. Here are a few ideas that have helped me along the way: Above all, keep your eyes on the road, always be alert, this is the number one key to safety. This is very important as your surroundings could change without notice. Secondly, drive defensively. Do not assume that everyone sees you! Always keep a good distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Never over-ride your stopping distance. You never know when the only option you have is to stop! You can never predict what hazards await you, minutes even seconds, down the road.People, you need to get your minds out of the gutter, and put them back on the road where they belong. The highway is a killer, but as long as you are focused on the road, then its mainly someone elses bad judgment or stupidity that could cause you to be injured or killed. By being focused at all times you will have the advantage over others carelessness. You could possibly react quickly enough to avoid, or prevent an accident. Now, you just took a crash course on highway safety. I really hope you will practice these methods of safe driving. It will pay off for everyone that participates. There are things I see on a daily basis that tell professional driverswatch-out, youre dealing with a person sporting a low I.Q.!Here are some of the acts I am referring to as Rush Hour Traffic:Women putting on make-up while driving, laptop computers being used by drivers, and especially now, the cell phone users. If you are one of these peopleplease, you cannot operate a motor vehicle safely and do this! YOU ARE A HAZARD TO THE HIGHWAY! GET WITH THE PROGRAM, PEOPLE! Why do you gamble with your lives, and the lives of others, this way? Do you have a will? Are you secure that upon your death, everything will be handled the way you planned? Are your children going to be taken care of? All these factors should be considered. You could just simply protect yourself by participating in the game of ACCIDENT PREVENTION, and greatly reduce your risk of having an accident. If everyone could see it the way I see it, the picture would be perfectly clearand speaking of perfectly clear, another hazard lies within inches of your face. Your windshield and side windows need to be kept clean as much as possible. The least bit of dirt glares against the sun, or headlights, and impairs your vision. Anytime your vision is impaired, YOU ARE A HAZARD TO THE HIGHWAY!!Maintenance is another key factor to safe operation. You should maintain your vehicle by having the correct amount of air pressure in the tires. If you are not sure what this should be have a professional check your tires. Its a good idea, especially for non-mechanics, to have your cars oil changed at a place where they check all the fluids, air pressure in tires, etc. Many of these places will show you exactly what to do when checking for yourself. Another matter of great importance is your lights, headlights, brake, rear and turn signal lights, or commercial lights, all lights should be checked regularly. You want to know whos on the highway with you and they need to see you also. If your vision is impaired by weather during the day, turn on your lights, especially during rain, sleet, snow or fog. Even if you can still see, someone else may not be able to see you! Think of it as the lighthouse in the storm, leading the ships to the shore, its a beacon for safety. Another dangerous thing to watch for is the mist from underneath a commercial\ tractor-trailer. Believe me, I know this can blind you for a few seconds; this is enough time to drift into another lane of traffic and have an accident. The truck driver may not be able to see you either and could even cause you to run off the road, maybe even kill you because he never saw you coming! YOU ARE A HAZARD TO THE HIGHWAY WITH IMPAIRED VISION!One of the biggest hazards on the road, and with all due respect to the Professional Driver, is a tractor\trailer. These vehicles by law (in most states) are allowed a maximum weight of 80,000 pounds; this is 40 tons coming at you! This kind of weight rolling down the highway at 60+ miles per hour is a fatal attraction. What if the driver did not inspect his vehicle and there was a major problem just looking for a place to happen? Every time you get close to a tractor\trailer and ride next to him in one spot for more than ten seconds, you are bringing on a hazard yourself. Now, Im not telling you this to scare you, but if it does, that means you didnt realize the hazard. In this book are FACTS, things mentioned in plain terms, telling you the truth about our highways and their hazards. Well, enough about that. Now, what I was sayingI knew they (the big rigs) were big, heavy, and intimidating! Thats not even the half of it, now that Ive experienced it first hand. A poorly maintained vehicle of any kind is a hazard to the highway but a tractor\trailer, even empty could weigh 20,000 to 40,000 pounds. This can be rolling death if poorly maintained! Now, more than 80% of the defects on a tractor-trailer are hidden. They have to be found by the driver during his inspections. And, unless the driver has done a thorough inspection, something

Book A Course in Miracles

Download or read book A Course in Miracles written by Helen Schucman and published by New Leaf Distribution. This book was released on 2009-05-15 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Course in Miracles (often called just the Course ) is a self-study course for retraining the mind that is spiritual, rather than religious, in its perspective. Although it uses Christian terminology, it is ecumenical in its approach, and its underlying ontology is reminiscent of ancient refrains, echoing the world s mosthallowed traditions. The Course is pragmatic in its method, and its aim is a peaceful mind: Knowledge is not the motivation for learning this course. Peace is. Nevertheless, the Course frequently emphasizes its simplicity. The edition of A Course in Miracles that is reproduced in this volume is sometimes referred to as the Hugh Lynn Cayce version because, upon completion, it had been delivered to Hugh Lynn Cayce, son of the renowned psychic Edgar Cayce, in 1972, before the manuscript was subjected to the substantial editing process that is described below."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Course in Miracles is the acclaimed spiritual guide that teaches the way to universal love and peace is by undoing guilt through forgiving others. The "miracles" of the title refers to shifts in perception from fear to love, which fosters the healing and sanctification of relationships. Although expressed in terms of traditional Christianity, this life-changing work constitutes nonsectarian, universal spiritual teachings. The three-part approach begins with an explanation of the course's theory and the development of the experience of forgiveness. The second consists of a workbook, comprising 365 lessons — an exercise for each day of the year — intended to influence students' perceptions. The third section presents a manual for teachers, in which the question-and-answer format provides responses for likely inquiries as well as definitions for terms used throughout the course. Written by Dr. Helen Schucman, a clinical and research psychologist, and edited by her colleague at Columbia University, Dr. William Thetford, from 1965 to 1970, A Course in Miracles has been translated into more than 20 languages and sold millions of copies around the world.
