Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heart failure affects over 5 million patients in the United States alone, and is a chronic and debilitating disease. While a number of pharmacologic therapies have shown varying degrees of effectiveness, many recent advances in the treatment of heart failure has focused on device based therapies. In Device Therapy in Heart Failure, William H. Maisel and a panel of authorities on the use and implementation of device based therapies provide a comprehensive overview of the current and developing technologies that are used to treat heart failure. Individual chapters provide an in-depth analysis of devices such as CRT’s and ICD’s, while broader topics such as the pathophysiology of heart failure and its current medical therapies are also discussed. Additional topics include Pacing and Defibrillation for Atrial Arrhythmias, Atrial Fibrillation Ablation, and Percutaneous Treatment of Coronary Artery Disease.

Book Reprising Craftsmanship

Download or read book Reprising Craftsmanship written by Pablo Rojas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Craftsmanship provides an insight into an inherently human dimension of work resulting from our immersion in an occupation or profession. The present book illustrates and defines the vital, social, aesthetic, and ethical dimensions involved in craftsmanship, which rejects a dissociation between handwork and wit, or between action and thought. This also contrasts with the neglect contemporary psychology has shown toward craftsmanship and its reduction to mere ‘human factors.’ Drawing on artistry as an emblem, the present account conveys that skilful action can only be renewed in a cycle involving both the personal and the transgenerational. There is little doubt in psychological and anthropological literature that the current global crises cannot be separated from social predicaments; namely, from the commodification of craftsmanship. In this book, the development of skilful action attests to a fundamental involvement required to sustainably perpetuate human endeavours. The role of expressivity in reappropriating technical activity is key in showing the continuous revaluation of our ethics and aesthetics of work, practice, and creation. The overall arc of the volume shows a movement from responsivity to responsibility. In short, if we are to reformulate our relationship to work and craft, we need to see through our responsibility in technique. The particularities of craftsmanship described here aim to contribute to such reformulation.

Book Irreversible Electroporation in Clinical Practice

Download or read book Irreversible Electroporation in Clinical Practice written by Martijn R. Meijerink and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-27 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the clinical use of irreversible electroporation (IRE) – better known by its commercial name, NanoKnife – which is one of the most exciting new needle-guided cancer treatments. The coverage includes the history of IRE, general technique, preclinical research, applications in clinical practice and early clinical results, and future perspectives. Contraindications, treatment planning, potential complications, follow-up imaging, and other practical aspects are fully discussed, with highlighting of useful tips and tricks. Through the delivery of short but highly intense electrical pulses, IRE results in tumor cell membrane permeabilization, causing cells to go into apoptosis. The minimally invasive nature of IRE, combined with the prospect of completely eradicating tumors while preserving delicate structures in the ablation zone, makes IRE the object of worldwide clinical research. This book will be of value for practitioners and trainees in interventional and diagnostic radiology, surgery, medical oncology, HPB and gastroenterology, urology, and radiation oncology.
