Book Alpha Beta and Gamma Ray Spectroscopy

Download or read book Alpha Beta and Gamma Ray Spectroscopy written by K. Siegbahn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 915 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alpha-, Beta- and Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy Volume 1 offers a comprehensive account of radioactivity and related low-energy phenomena. It summarizes progress in the field of alpha-, beta- and gamma-ray spectroscopy, including the discovery of the non-conservation of parity, as well as new experimental methods that elucidate the processes of weak interactions in general and beta-decay in particular. Comprised of 14 chapters, the book presents experimental methods and theoretical discussions and calculations to maintain the link between experiment and theory. It begins with a discussion of the interaction of electrons and alpha particles with matter. The book explains the elastic scattering of electrons by atomic nuclei and the interaction between gamma-radiation and matter. It then introduces topic on beta-ray spectrometer theory and design and crystal diffraction spectroscopy of nuclear gamma rays. Moreover, the book discusses the applications of the scintillation counter; proportional counting in gases; and the general processes and procedures used in determining disintegration schemes through a study of the beta- and gamma-rays emitted. In addition, it covers the nuclear shell model; collective nuclear motion and the unified model; and alpha-decay conservation laws. The emissions of gamma-radiation during charged particle bombardment and from fission fragments, as well as the neutron-capture radiation spectroscopy, are also explained. Experimentalists will find this book extremely useful.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cutting-edge new edition of the classic introduction to radioactive measurement Gammy-Ray Spectrometry is a key technique in the study of radioactive decay. It measures the rate and extent of radioactivity from a variety of sources, both natural and artificial, including cosmic ray sources, nuclear reactors, high-energy physics experiments, and more. The resulting data can be essential to environmental monitoring and to a range of experimental sciences. For years, Practical Gamma-Ray Spectrometry has served as the classic introduction to this area for current or aspiring practitioners. A comprehensive but accessible treatment of the subject, with a thorough discussion of all major classes of detectors and their associated electronic systems, it contains everything a researcher needs to make optimal gamma-ray measurements. Now fully updated to reflect the latest technology and experimental data, it is a must-own for researchers looking to incorporate gamma-ray spectrometry into their scientific practice. Readers of the third edition of Practical Gamma-Ray Spectrometry will also find: Fault-finding guide for rapid and effective problem resolution Workshop-style approach emphasizing the fundamentals of laboratory practice New sections dealing with novel developments in nuclear structure research, measuring effects of pollution and climate change, new semiconductor materials, and more Practical Gamma-Ray Spectrometry is ideal for PhD students and practicing gamma-ray spectroscopists, including researchers working on radiation, energy and environmental monitoring professionals, and researchers working in physics, archaeometry, and related subjects.

Book Applied Gamma Ray Spectrometry

Download or read book Applied Gamma Ray Spectrometry written by C. E. Crouthamel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Gamma-Ray Spectrometry covers real life application of the gamma-ray and the devices used in their experimental studies. This book is organized into 9 chapters, and starts with discussions of the various decay processes, the possible interaction mechanisms of gamma radiation with matter, and the intrinsic and extrinsic variables, which affect the observed gamma-ray and X-ray spectra. The subsequent chapters deal with the properties and fabrication of scintillation detectors, semiconductor detectors, and proportional gas counters. These chapters present some of the most widely utilized applications of these detectors, with a particular emphasis to the activation analysis. These topics are followed by reviews of the description of basic equipment, such as amplifiers, analyzers, special spectrometer arrangements, and detector shielding. Other chapters describe energy and time resolution and quantitative calibration. The quantitative and qualitative interpretation of the spectra is also explained, along with the calibration of the detectors. The last chapter considers the analytical applications of gamma-ray and X-ray spectrometry in tracer studies, activation analysis, fission product studies, and X-ray fluorescence analysis. This book will be of value to analytical chemists and analytical chemistry researchers.

Download or read book 4 pi high Resolution Gamma ray Spectroscopy written by Amand Faessler and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1992 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics is a series of volumes which gathers together papers discussing new developments in the field. Emphasis is placed on publishing articles that explore the interface between particle and nuclear physics, especially such matters as the role of mesons, isobars and quarks in nuclear structure and the use of complex nuclei for probing fundamental particle symmetries. This volume of Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics publishes the proceedings of the Erice International Workshop on Gamma Ray Spectroscopy. The workshops bring together internationally recognized experts in the field together with young scientists. The experts give reviews of the current status of a topic, followed by seminars, discussions and special workshops. These proceedings publish 44 papers providing a comprehensive and copiously illustrated overview of this rapidly expanding field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the laboratory program, runs have just been completed with the newly acquired Pu239 targets for bombardments with thermal neutrons and with neutrons of energies 0.050, 0.419, 5 and 15.4 MeV. For U235 additional gamma-ray spectra have been measured as a function of time for neutron bombardments at the following energies: thermal, 0.050, 0.419, 0.521, 0.618, 0.713, 0.810, 0.904 and 0.998 MeV. A preliminary analysis of the foregoing data has been performed with the objective of finding gamma-ray lines which exhibit significant variations in production rate with neutron energy and/or target isotope.

Book Gamma Ray Spectrometry of Rocks

Download or read book Gamma Ray Spectrometry of Rocks written by John A. S. Adams and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gamma-Ray Spectrometry of Rocks: Methods in Geochemistry and Geophysics provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of the gamma-ray spectrometry of rocks. This book discusses the increasing interest in using gamma spectrometry in the search for uranium ore. Organized into seven chapters, this book begins with an overview of the approximate frequency and wave length of electromagnetic radiations. This text then examines the quantitative detection of X and gamma photons, which is based upon their interactions with matter. Other chapters consider the inorganic scintillation crystals as the most favorable detectors due to its requirement of a high intrinsic efficiency. This book discusses as well the shape of the spectrum of a monoenergetic gamma-ray beam, which is dependent on the photon energy. The final chapter deals with the determination of the abundances of natural radioisotopes and their stable end products in a rock or mineral. This book is a valuable resource for radiological health physicists, chemists, geochemists, and exploration geologists.
