Book High Resolution Spectroscopy of Transient Molecules

Download or read book High Resolution Spectroscopy of Transient Molecules written by Eizi Hirota and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a great challenge in chemistry to clarify every detail of reaction processes. In older days chemists mixed starting materials in a flask and took the resul tants out of it after a while, leaving all the intermediate steps uncleared as a sort of black box. One had to be content with only changing temperature and pressure to accelerate or decelerate chemical reactions, and there was almost no hope of initiating new reactions. However, a number of new techniques and new methods have been introduced and have provided us with a clue to the examination of the black box of chemical reaction. Flash photolysis, which was invented in the 1950s, is such an example; this method has been combined with high-resolution electronic spectroscopy with photographic recording of the spectra to provide a large amount of precise and detailed data on transient molecules which occur as intermediates during the course of chemical reac tions. In 1960 a fundamentally new light source was devised, i. e. , the laser. When the present author and coworkers started high-resolution spectroscopic stud ies of transient molecules at a new research institute, the Institute for Molecu lar Science in Okazaki in 1975, the time was right to exploit this new light source and its microwave precursor in order to shed light on the black box.

Download or read book Spectroscopy written by B. Straughan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is fifteen years since Walker and Straw wrote the first edition of 'Spectroscopy' and considerable developments have taken place during that time in all fields of this expanding subject. In atomic spectroscopy, for example, where the principles required in a student text have been laid down for many years, there have been advances in optical pumping and double resonance which cannot be neglected at undergraduate level. In addition, nuclear quadrupole resonance (n.q.f.) and far infrared spectroscopy now merit separate chapters while addtional chapters dealing with Mbssbauer spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy and group theory are an essential requisite for any modern spectroscopy textbook. When the idea for a new edition of Spectroscopy was first discussed it quickly became clear that the task of revision would be an impossible one for two authors working alone. Consequently it was decided that the new edition be planned and co-ordinated by two editors who were to invite specialists, each of whom had experience of presenting their subject at an undergraduate level, to contribute a new chapter or to revise extensively an existing chapter. In this manner a proper perspective of each topic has been provided without any sacri fice of the essential character and unity of the first edition. The expansion of subject matter has necessitated the division of the complete work into three self contained volumes. Volume I includes atomic, n.m.f., n.q.f., e.s.r. and Mbssbauer spectroscopy.

Book High Resolution Fourier Transform Spectroscopy of Linear Molecules

Download or read book High Resolution Fourier Transform Spectroscopy of Linear Molecules written by K. A. Mohamed and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High resolution Fourier transform spectra of linear molecules have evoked a great deal of interest during the last several years, which could be seen from the several hundreds of papers published in the journal on the spectra of diatomic and small linear polyatomic molecules. This book describes the advantages of FT Spectroscopy, the techniques employed in absorption and emission spectroscopy, and presents the theoretical models and formulas used in the analyses and interpretation of the spectra. The Perturbations observed in the spectra due to Fermi, Darling-Dennison, Coriolis, and other anharmonic resonances; and vibrational and rotational l-type resonances etc. are discussed with suitable examples. The types of information obtained from FT spectroscopy of two to ten atomic linear molecules, their observed transitions and spectral perturbation etc. are presented along with figures and curves.
