Download or read book Preferential Lane Treatments for High occupancy Vehicles written by Charles A. Fuhs and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1993 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to transportation planners, highway engineers, environmental personnel, highway design engineers, transit planners, highway administrators, and others concerned with the planning, design, and operational features of preferential high- occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on highways. Information is provided on the current and proposed state of the practice in North America. This synthesis describes the state of the art with respect to preferential treatment for HOVs on highways. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on long-distance facilities, such as barrier-separated, concurrent-flow (separated and nonseparated), and contraflow facilities, as well as on short-distance facilities, such as queue by-pass lanes. Planning, design, and operational features of each treatment are described. The issues and operating results are described, and specific case studies are included.

Download or read book Mobility as a Service written by Malte Ackermann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-05 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of mobility-as-a-service and the disruption of the automotive industry are both overlapping and fuelled by the same developments and thus raise a very fundamental question: are we at peak car? Based on the author’s extensive field research, academic study, and professional experience, this book explores this very question as well as the underlying social, economic, generational, and regulatory changes that lead to a new mobility regime. Through rich descriptions of established OEMs and mobility start-ups, it discusses the current forms of mobility and the promise of autonomous technology. It further explores the strategic dimension of these developments so as to navigate and succeed within the disruptive and ever-changing environment of mobility services.

This book was released on 1992 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This design guide has been developed for the purpose of helping to achieve the following transportation systems management (TSM) goals: To maximize the person-moving capacity of roadway facilities by providing improved operating level of service for high occupancy vehicles (HOVs), both public and private; To conserve fuel and to minimize consumption of other resources needed for transportation; To improve air quality; and To increase overall accessibility while reducing vehicular congestion. Part I deals with HOV options in terms of planning and operations; Part II deals with design criteria for HOV options on freeways; and Part III deals with design criteria for HOV options on surface arterial streets.

Download or read book Traffic Control Systems Handbook written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook, which was developed in recognition of the need for the compilation and dissemination of information on advanced traffic control systems, presents the basic principles for the planning, design, and implementation of such systems for urban streets and freeways. The presentation concept and organization of this handbook is developed from the viewpoint of systems engineering. Traffic control studies are described, and traffic control and surveillance concepts are reviewed. Hardware components are outlined, and computer concepts, and communication concepts are stated. Local and central controllers are described, as well as display, television and driver information systems. Available systems technology and candidate system definition, evaluation and implementation are also covered. The management of traffic control systems is discussed.

Download or read book High Occupancy Vehicle HOV Lane Marketing Manual written by John W. Billheimer and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Marketing Manual is designed to provide marketing and HOV professionals with practical guidelines for improving the public awareness, understanding, acceptance, and use of HOV facilities. The organization of the manual features four main sections. The first section, Introduction, contains highlights from case studies of HOV marketing experience and summarizes a few key principles of successful marketing gleaned from these studies. The next main section, Planning the Campaign, addresses such key topics as market research, campaign strategy, marketing materials, and constituency building. The third main section, Implementing the Campaign, covers media relations, advertising placement, promotion, community relations, and ongoing marketing activities. The last major section, Monitoring and Evaluation, discusses the need to monitor and assess the marketing campaign, public response, and HOV lane performance. Finally, Appendices contain sample marketing materials from a variety of HOV projects, project data, the case studies themselves, and a list of contacts who have had experience marketing HOV lanes in various parts of the country.
