Book Pion and Kaon Correlations in High Energy Heavy ion Collisions

Download or read book Pion and Kaon Correlations in High Energy Heavy ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data analysis is in progress for recent experiments performed by the NA44 collaboration with the first running of 160 A GeV 2°8Pb-induced reactions at the CERN SPS. Identified singles spectra were taken for pions, kaons, protons, deuterons, antiprotons and antideuterons. Two-pion interferometry measurements were made for semi-central-triggered 2°8Pb + Pb collisions. An upgraded multi-particle spectrometer allows high statistics data sets of identified particles to be collected near mid-rapidity. A second series of experiments will be performed in the fall of 1995 with more emphasis on identical kaon interferometry and on the measurement of rare particle spectra and correlations. Modest instrumentation upgrades by TAMU are designed to increase the trigger function for better impact parameter selection and improved collection efficiency of valid events. An effort to achieve the highest degree of projectile-target stopping is outlined and it is argued that an excitation function on the SPS is needed to better understand reaction mechanisms. Analysis of experimental results is in the final stages at LBL in the EOS collaboration for two-pion interferometry in the 1.2 A GeV Au+Au reaction, taken with full event characterization. 35 refs., 15 figs., 5 tabs.

Book Kaon and Pion Interferometry Final Report

Download or read book Kaon and Pion Interferometry Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both NA44 and EOS continue to publish high quality data on relativistic heavy ion collisions. The next leap in energy will be provided by BRAHMS at RHIC. Experiment NA44 has measured particle correlations of[pi][sup[+-]], K[sup+] and protons and single particle distributions of[pi][sup[+-]], K[sup[+-]], p, [anti p], d and[anti d] for pA, SA and PbPb collisions at 450GeV/c, 200A[center-dot]GeV and 158A[center-dot]GeV for the p, S and Pb beams respectively. When the spectra are fitted to an exponential in m[sub T], the inverse slopes increase as the system gets heavier and with increasing particle mass. For larger systems the baryon density at mid-rapidity increases implying more secondary collisions. These fuel a collective expansion and a boost in transverse momentum proportional to the mass as seen in the data. The EOS collaboration has continued to publish results from their large data set of heavy ion collisions at the BEVALAC. They plan to study the energy dependence of coalescence and flow by comparing results from NA44 and EOS.

Book Beam energy dependent Two pion Interferometry and the Freeze out Eccentricity of Pions Measured in Heavy Ion Collisions at the STAR Detector

Download or read book Beam energy dependent Two pion Interferometry and the Freeze out Eccentricity of Pions Measured in Heavy Ion Collisions at the STAR Detector written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, we present results of analyses of two-pion interferometry in Au+Au collisions at √sNN = 7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV measured in the STAR detector as part of the RHIC Beam Energy Scan program. The extracted correlation lengths (HBT radii) are studied as a function of beam energy, azimuthal angle relative to the reaction plane, centrality, and transverse mass (mT) of the particles. The azimuthal analysis allows extraction of the eccentricity of the entire fireball at kinetic freeze-out. The energy dependence of this observable is expected to be sensitive to changes in the equation of state. A new global fit method is studied as an alternate method to directly measure the parameters in the azimuthal analysis. The eccentricity shows a monotonic decrease with beam energy that is qualitatively consistent with the trend from all model predictions and quantitatively consistent with a hadronic transport model.

Book Evidence for Collective Multiparticle Correlations in P Pb Collisions

Download or read book Evidence for Collective Multiparticle Correlations in P Pb Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second-order azimuthal anisotropy Fourier harmonics, v2, are obtained in p-Pb and PbPb collisions over a wide pseudorapidity ([eta]) range based on correlations among six or more charged particles. The p-Pb data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 nb-1, were collected during the 2013 LHC p-Pb run at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV by the CMS experiment. A sample of semiperipheral PbPb collision data at √sNN=2.76 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.5 [mu]b-1 and covering a similar range of particle multiplicities as the p-Pb data, is also analyzed for comparison. The six- and eight-particle cumulant and the Lee-Yang zeros methods are used to extract the v2 coefficients, extending previous studies of two- and four-particle correlations. For both the p-Pb and PbPb systems, the v2 values obtained with correlations among more than four particles are consistent with previously published four-particle results. These data support the interpretation of a collective origin for the previously observed long-range (large [Delta][eta]) correlations in both systems. The ratios of v2 values corresponding to correlations including different numbers of particles are compared to theoretical predictions that assume a hydrodynamic behavior of a p-Pb system dominated by fluctuations in the positions of participant nucleons. These results provide new insights into the multiparticle dynamics of collision systems with a very small overlapping region.

Book Two pion Bose Einstein Correlations in Central Pb Pb Collisions at sNN

Download or read book Two pion Bose Einstein Correlations in Central Pb Pb Collisions at sNN written by Kenneth Aamodt and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than those measured at RHIC.

Book Femtoscopic Correlations of Identical Charged Pions and Kaons in Pp Collisions at s

Download or read book Femtoscopic Correlations of Identical Charged Pions and Kaons in Pp Collisions at s written by Shreyasi Acharya and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collective behavior has been observed in high-energy heavy-ion collisions for several decades. Collectivity is driven by the high particle multiplicities that are produced in these collisions. At the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), features of collectivity have also been seen in high-multiplicity proton-proton collisions that can attain particle multiplicities comparable to peripheral Pb-Pb collisions. One of the possible signatures of collective behavior is the decrease of femtoscopic radii extracted from pion and kaon pairs emitted from high-multiplicity collisions with increasing pair transverse momentum. This decrease can be described in terms of an approximate transverse mass scaling. In the present work, femtoscopic analyses are carried out by the ALICE collaboration on charged pion and kaon pairs produced in pp collisions at s√=13 TeV from the LHC to study possible collectivity in pp collisions. The event-shape analysis method based on transverse sphericity is used to select for spherical versus jet-like events, and the effects of this selection on the femtoscopic radii for both charged pion and kaon pairs are studied. This is the first time this selection method has been applied to charged kaon pairs. An approximate transverse-mass scaling of the radii is found in all multiplicity ranges studied when the difference in the Lorentz boost for pions and kaons is taken into account. This observation does not support the hypothesis of collective expansion of hot and dense matter that should only occur in high-multiplicity events. A possible alternate explanation of the present results is based on a scenario of common emission conditions for pions and kaons in pp collisions for the multiplicity ranges studied.

This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The size of the particle emission region in high-energy collisions can be deduced using the femtoscopic correlations of particle pairs at low relative momentum. Such correlations arise due to quantum statistics and Coulomb and strong final state interactions. In this paper, results are presented from femtoscopic analyses of [pi]± [pi]±, K± K±, K$0\atop{S}$K$0\atop{S}$, pp, and $\overline{p}$ $\overline{p}$ correlations from Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. One-dimensional radii of the system are extracted from correlation functions in terms of the invariant momentum difference of the pair. The comparison of the measured radii with the predictions from a hydrokinetic model is discussed. The pion and kaon source radii display a monotonic decrease with increasing average pair transverse mass mT which is consistent with hydrodynamic model predictions for central collisions. Lastly, the kaon and proton source sizes can be reasonably described by approximate mT scaling.

Book Centrality Dependence of Pion Freeze out Radii in Pb Pb Collisions at math mrow msqrt msub mi mi mrow mi Mathvariant

This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, we report on the measurement of freeze-out radii for pairs of identical-charge pions measured in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV as a function of collision centrality and the average transverse momentum of the pair kT. Three-dimensional sizes of the system (femtoscopic radii), as well as direction-averaged one-dimensional radii are extracted. The radii decrease with kT, following a power-law behavior. This is qualitatively consistent with expectations from a collectively expanding system, produced in hydrodynamic calculations. The radii also scale linearly with dNch/d [eta] 1/3. We compare this behavior to world data on femtoscopic radii in heavy-ion collisions. While the dependence is qualitatively similar to results at smaller √sNN, a decrease in the ratio Rout/Rside is seen, which is in qualitative agreement with a specific prediction from hydrodynamic models: a change from inside-out to outside-in freeze-out configuration. Furthermore, these results provide further evidence for the production of a collective, strongly coupled system in heavy-ion collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

Book Pion Interferometry and Resonances in Pp and AA Collisions

Download or read book Pion Interferometry and Resonances in Pp and AA Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study the sensitivity of pion interferometry in {bar p}p and {bar p}p collisions at ISR energies to the resonance abundance. We show that those data are not compatible with the full resonance fractions predicted by the Lund model. The preliminary S+S and O+Au data at 200 GeV are, however, not incompatible with the Lund predictions, although their sensitivity to resonances is significantly weaker than in the pp/{bar p}p case.
