Book Hierarchical Flux Based Thermal Structural Finite Element Analysis Method

Download or read book Hierarchical Flux Based Thermal Structural Finite Element Analysis Method written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hierarchical flux-based finite element method is developed for both a one and two dimensional thermal structural analyses. Derivation of the finite element equations is presented. The resulting finite element matrices associated with the flux based formulation are evaluated in a closed form. The hierarchical finite elements include additional degrees of freedom in the approximation of the element variable distributions by the use of nodeless variables. The nodeless variables offer increased solution accuracy without the need for defining actual nodes and rediscretizing the finite element model. Thermal and structural responses are obtained from a conventional linear finite element method and exact solutions. Results show that the hierarchical flux-based method can provide improved thermal and structural solution accuracy with fewer elements when compared to results for the conventional linear element method. Book Trefftz and Fundamental Solution Based Finite Element Methods

Download or read book Trefftz and Fundamental Solution Based Finite Element Methods written by Qing-Hua Qin and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference explains hybrid-Trefftz finite element method (FEM). Readers are introduced to the basic concepts and general element formulations of the method. This is followed by topics on non-homogeneous parabolic problems, thermal analysis of composites, and heat conduction in nonlinear functionally graded materials. A brief summary of the fundamental solution based-FEM is also presented followed by a discussion on axisymmetric potential problems and the rotordynamic response of tapered composites. The book is rounded by chapters that cover the n-sided polygonal hybrid finite elements and analysis of piezoelectric materials. Key Features - Systematic presentation of 9 topics - Covers FEMs in two sections: 1) hybrid-Trefftz method and 2) fundamental FEM solutions - Bibliographic references - Includes solutions to problems in the numerical analysis of different material types - Includes solutions to some problems encountered in civil engineering (seepage, heat transfer, etc). This reference is suitable for scholars involved in advanced courses in mathematics and engineering (civil engineering/materials engineering). Professionals involved in developing analytical tools for materials and construction testing can also benefit from the methods presented in the book.

Book Finite Element Thermal structural Analysis of Cable stiffened Space Structures

Download or read book Finite Element Thermal structural Analysis of Cable stiffened Space Structures written by Earl Arthur Thornton and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite element thermal-structural analyses of cable-stiffened space structures are presented. A computational scheme for calculation of prestresses in the cable-stiffened structures is also described. The determination of thermal loads on orbiting space structures due to environmental heating is described briefly. Three finite element structural analysis techniques are presented for the analysis of prestressed structures. Linear, stress stiffening and large displacement analysis techniques are investigated. The three techniques are employed for analysis of prestressed cable structures at different prestress levels. The analyses produce similar results at small prestress but at higher prestress, differences between the results become significant. For the cable-stiffened structures studied, the linear analysis technique may not provide acceptable results. The stress stiffening analysis technique may yield results of acceptable accuracy depending on the prestress. The large displacement analysis technique produces accurate results over a wide range of prestresses and is recommended as a general analysis technique for thermal-structural analysis of cable-stiffened space structures.

Book Hierarchical Strategy for Rapid Finite Element Analysis

Download or read book Hierarchical Strategy for Rapid Finite Element Analysis written by Julian Varghese and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new methodology is introduced where the natural hierarchical character of model descriptions and simulation results are exploited to expedite analysis of problems. The philosophy and the different concepts involved are illustrated by implementing the strategy to solve some practical problems. The end result was a mix of mechanics, well-designed data structures and software interfaces that forms a rapid analysis environment. This can be very advantageous for cases where a sequence of analyses is required because of safety concerns or cost. When designing a structure, it is common to make frequent modifications to the model during the process. In such cases, the ability to use data from different models within the same analysis environment becomes a major advantage. The proposed system's forte is its hierarchical framework that allows models to communicate with each other and share information with one another. This makes it ideal for global local analyses where solutions from a global model are used to derive the boundary conditions for the local model. The system was also used to conduct a micro mechanical analysis on unidirectional composites that have a non-uniform spatial distribution of the fibers. The hierarchical strategy is not tied to any specific methodology and can be adapted to solve problem using different technologies. This allows the strategy to be used across multiple length scales and governing equations.

Book Finite Element Analysis for Heat Transfer

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis for Heat Transfer written by Hou-Cheng Huang and published by Springer. This book was released on 1994-10-31 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents an introduction to the application of the finite ele ment method to the analysis of heat transfer problems. The discussion has been limited to diffusion and convection type of heat transfer in solids and fluids. The main motivation of writing this book stems from two facts. Firstly, we have not come across any other text which provides an intro duction to the finite element method (FEM) solely from a heat transfer perspective. Most introductory texts attempt to teach FEM from a struc tural engineering background, which may distract non-structural engineers from pursuing this important subject with full enthusiasm. We feel that our approach provides a better alternative for non-structural engineers. Secondly, for people who are interested in using FEM for heat transfer, we have attempted to cover a wide range of topics, presenting the essential the ory and full implementational details including two FORTRAN programs. In addition to the basic FEM heat transfer concepts and implementation, we have also presented some modem techniques which are being used to enhance the accuracy and speed of the conventional method. In writing the text we have endeavoured to keep it accessible to persons with qualifications of no more than an engineering graduate. As mentioned earlier this book may be used to learn FEM by beginners, this may include undergraduate students and practicing engineers. However, there is enough advanced material to interest more experienced practitioners.
