Book OECD Territorial Reviews

Download or read book OECD Territorial Reviews written by OECD and published by Org. for Economic Cooperation & Development. This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hidalgo is one of the smallest states in Mexico. It benefits from its close proximity to Mexico City and contains a number of economic and environmental assets in its territory. After a long period of economic stagnation, the state is now closing up the gap with national standards. Yet, productivity and income levels remain low with respect to national levels, and there exist high socio-economic disparities between the south of the state and the municipalities in the northern and mountainous area. This review looks at how the state of Hidalgo is seeking to boost its economy, particularly through a series of institutional reforms and policies to improve the business environment. It highlights opportunities to accelerate the economic convergence and transit towards high-value added economic sectors. The review also identifies a number of recommendations to promote inclusive growth and reduce its north-south divide and offers suggestions to address governance challenges in the territory.

This book was released on 1992-09-01 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Signed in 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war between the United States and Mexico and gave a large portion of Mexico’s northern territories to the United States. The language of the treaty was designed to deal fairly with the people who became residents of the United States by default. However, as Richard Griswold del Castillo points out, articles calling for equality and protection of civil and property rights were either ignored or interpreted to favor those involved in the westward expansion of the United States rather than the Mexicans and Indians living in the conquered territories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book fills a significant gap in the scholarship on the Mexican Revolution by providing a detailed history of the northeastern state of Coahuila from the late Portifirian era to 1920. It evaluates the social, political, and economic developments that contributed to revolutionary activity within Coahuila, and that helped shape the revolutionary movements led by Francisco I. Madero and Venustiano Carranza. Pasztor explores the role played by the extensive Coahuila-Texas border in the financing of the Mexican Revolution and she addresses the revolution's immediate outcomes through a study of the reforms introduced during the governorships of Carranza and Gustavo Espinosa Mireles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mexico comprises 32 diverse states, and this reference is the first to succinctly profile each. Each chapter devoted to one of the states provides a contemporary snapshot of the most important information to know about the state, with essay sections on its characteristics, flora and fauna, cultural groups and languages, history, economy, social customs, arts, noteworthy places, and cuisine with representative recipes. Familiar and noteworthy names in Mexican culture are highlighted in the applicable sections. The format is perfect for students studying Spanish and travelers and general readers wanting a different angle from that provided in guidebooks and more authoritativeness than they can offer. Readers learn about the pulsing metropolis of Mexico City to the jungle isolation found in the Yucatan Peninsula. Considering the huge political, social, and economic focus on Mexico and the number of Mexican immigrants in the United Status today, Americans need to know more about Mexico and the homeland of these new immigrants. Make this one of the sources you recommend to your patrons to get a quick yet substantial feel for the states and their people. A map and photo accompany each chapter, and the volume contains a chronology, glossary, and selected bibliography.
