Book Cycling Walking for Regional Development

Download or read book Cycling Walking for Regional Development written by Paolo Pileri and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-28 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates why and how cycle and walking paths can help to promote the regeneration of marginalized areas facing depopulation and economic decline. In addition, it offers a broad overview of recent scientific research into slow tourism and marginality/spatial inequality and explores the linkages between these topics. Key issues are addressed by experts from various disciplinary backgrounds, and potential measures are proposed for the integration of slow tourism into strategies for regional development. Particular attention is devoted to the VENTO project, which involves the creation of a 700-km-long cycle route from Venice to Turin that passes through various rural and marginalized areas of northern Italy. The goal, research process, design, and early lessons from this important project are all discussed in detail. Moreover, the book describes policies and strategies that have successfully been used to enhance the slow tourism infrastructure in other European countries. Given its scope, the book will appeal to researchers, professionals, and students interested in e.g. policymaking, tourism planning, regional development, and landscape and urban planning.

Book Patrimonio culturale e comunit educante

Download or read book Patrimonio culturale e comunit educante written by Maria Rita Mancaniello and published by Mimesis. This book was released on 2023-09-01T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Patrimonio culturale e paesaggio

Download or read book Patrimonio culturale e paesaggio written by Maria Mautone and published by Gangemi Editore spa. This book was released on 2011-11-10T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The role of cultural and landscape heritage in building territorial identity has been examined at length by human sciences and thus the deep-seated causes determining the consolidation of territorial organizations, the value of natural and anthropic components, the processes of significance attribution and enrichment and the motivations for conservation and enhancement have all been thoroughly analysed and clarified. Upon conclusion of this phase, an examination of the manner in which this "cultural capital" is managed was deemed necessary in order to ensure that all the identified potential be expressed in the planning and financial programming processes. As a consequence, scientific reflection must focus upon the consequences of applying approaches which, from a theoretical-methodological perspective, are concrete and well-developed. Falling within the context of this debate is the volume entitled Cultural and landscape heritage: a sectoral approach to territorial planning. This volume proposes a research procedure based upon a transversal approach which integrates diverse expertise in the cultural realm in order to overcome any sectoral partiality in the analyses and actions to be undertaken. In order to attain the basic research and application objectives, geographical sciences are involved in the entire gamut of disciplinary approaches, which range from consideration of the essence of landscape, the most innovative systems of mapping representation, studies regarding anthropic pressure and landscape standardization to new forms of territorial competition undertaken in the rationale of governance and cultural districts. In a multi-quality approach, landscape - like polihedra - must be observed from various angles and perspectives in order to fully comprehend the multiplicity of the various aspects. In analyzing cultural and environmental heritage based upon "sectoral" logic, the theoretical-operational framework needs to be established by a panel, comprised of diverse expertise representing specialized areas of research, will be able to lead the way to a clear and well developed procedure for territorial studies.

Book The Boundaries of Europe

Download or read book The Boundaries of Europe written by Pietro Rossi and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Europe’s boundaries have mainly been shaped by cultural, religious, and political conceptions rather than by geography. This volume of bilingual essays from renowned European scholars outlines the transformation of Europe’s boundaries from the fall of the ancient world to the age of decolonization, or the end of the explicit endeavor to “Europeanize” the world. From the decline of the Roman Empire to the polycentrism of today’s world, the essays span such aspects as the confrontation of Christian Europe with Islam and the changing role of the Mediterranean from “mare nostrum” to a frontier between nations. Scandinavia, eastern Europe and the Atlantic are also analyzed as boundaries in the context of exploration, migratory movements, cultural exchanges, and war. The Boundaries of Europe, edited by Pietro Rossi, is the first installment in the ALLEA book series Discourses on Intellectual Europe, which seeks to explore the question of an intrinsic or quintessential European identity in light of the rising skepticism towards Europe as an integrated cultural and intellectual region.

Book Green Utopianism

Download or read book Green Utopianism written by Karin Bradley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-21 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utopian thought and experimental approaches to societal organization have been rare in the last decades of planning and politics. Instead, there is a widespread belief in ecological modernization, that sustainable societies can be created within the frame of the current global capitalist world order by taking small steps such as eco-labeling, urban densification, and recycling. However, in the context of the current crisis in which resource depletion, climate change, uneven development, and economic instability are seen as interlinked, this belief is increasingly being questioned and alternative developmental paths sought. This collection demonstrates how utopian thought can be used in a contemporary context, as critique and in exploring desired futures. The book includes theoretical perspectives on changing global socio-environmental relationships and political struggles for alternative development paths, and analyzes micro-level practices in co-housing, alternative energy provision, use of green space, transportation, co-production of urban space, peer-to-peer production and consumption, and alternative economies. It contributes research perspectives on contemporary green utopian practices and strategies, combining theoretical and empirical analyses to spark discussions of possible futures.

Download or read book The Imagined Immigrant written by Ilaria Serra and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using original sources--such as newspaper articles, silent movies, letters, autobiographies, and interviews--Ilaria Serra depicts a large tapestry of images that accompanied mass Italian migration to the U.S. at the turn of the twentieth century. She chooses to translate the Italian concept of immaginario with the Latin imago that felicitously blends the double English translation of the word as "imagery" and "imaginary." Imago is a complex knot of collective representations of the immigrant subject, a mental production that finds concrete expression; impalpable, yet real. The "imagined immigrant" walks alongside the real one in flesh and rags.

Book International Marketing and the Country of Origin Effect

Download or read book International Marketing and the Country of Origin Effect written by G. Bertoli and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The approach of the chapters that comprise this volume is academically rigorous and at the same time managerially relevant, which is why I believe the book helps to push the made-in research agenda forward at the same time as it provides practitioners with new ideas they can apply to their brands.' – Nicolas Papadopoulos, Carleton University, Canada The country of origin of goods and services can have positive or negative effect on customers' intentions to purchase. This book analyzes the impact of this effect on the international development of Italian companies in emerging markets. The chapters refer to a wide range of issues, including made-in effects in relation to ethnocentrism and to corporate social responsibility in small and medium-sized enterprises; the interactions and synergistic effects between product-related made-in images and the images of places as tourism destinations; distribution channel issues; 'made-in topics' in relation to emerging markets; and a review of the relevant literature on country of origin effects. The contributors propose strategies and tools that companies might leverage to develop their international marketing and suggest policies that might strengthen these efforts. This original work will prove to be a valuable resource for students and researchers of international marketing and strategy as well as policy makers.
