Book excerpt: For most of the millions of Americans who go afield in pursuit of game in the 1990s, a hunt is about so much more than the act of hunting. It’s also about connecting to the land, bonding with your hunting companions, and respecting the spirit of the chase. The core of the hunt, the very reasons that people go afield, is the same today as it was in 1900. Tradition. And tradition is what this book is about. A striking collection of stories and artwork, this is a celebration of our hunting heritage that’s sure to evoke your own special hunting memories. "100 Years of Hunting" includes compelling stories about hunting game from the ever-popular whitetail to mule deer, elk, grizzly bear, bighorn sheep, grouse, ducks, pheasant, and more from the past 100 years. These engaging narratives are from such legends as Grover Cleveland, Zane Grey, Archibald Rutledge, Gordon MacQuarrie, Patrick F. McManus, Ernest Hemingway, and Robert Ruark. These hunting tales are paired with great artwork, including outstanding wildlife photography, hunting collectibles, sporting paintings, period ads, and historical images.

Book Successful Small Game Hunting

Download or read book Successful Small Game Hunting written by M. Johnson and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-02-28 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategies for Today's Small Game Generation Whether it's waiting out a fox squirrel in a northeastern Ohio hickory grove, calling from a midnight stand for red fox, or anticipating the whirlwind flush of a ruffled grouse, nothing challenges the hunter nor hones the skills quite like the pursuit of North America's small game species. In his latest book, Successful Small Game Hunting, M.D. Johnson helps rekindle the flame that sparked the desire to hunt. With new twists on age-old outdoor ideas and just enough nostalgia to remind you that small game hunting is "where it all began," Johnson revisits the species and the techniques that have helped make small game hunting the grand pastime that it is. Wonderfully illustrated with outstanding images by award-winning photographer, Julia Johnson, Successful Small Game Hunting follows in the footsteps of Johnson's other titles - Successful Duck Hunting and Successful Turkey Hunting - by putting you right into the middle of the action with some of the finest small game hunters and trappers in the nation. Recapture the thrill of your first hunt as M.D. Johnson and friends guide you through the woodlots and uplands, the marshes and the fields in search of small game.

Book Faunal Heritage of Rajasthan India

Download or read book Faunal Heritage of Rajasthan India written by B.K. Sharma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-14 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first ever monumental and scientific documentation of the faunal wealth of the Indian Desert state of Rajasthan. This volume, the first of two, provides background on Rajasthan and covers species diversity and distribution of fauna. A scholarly contribution to the field of knowledge, it provides novel and vital information on the vertebrate faunal heritage of India’s largest state. Broadly falling under the Indo-Malaya Ecozone, the three major biomes of Rajasthan include deserts and xeric shrublands, tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests, and tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests. The corresponding ecoregions to the above biomes are, respectively, the Thar Desert and northwestern thorn scrub forests, the Khathiar-Gir dry deciduous forests, and the Upper Gangtic Plains moist deciduous forests. Contrary to popular belief, the well-known Thar or Great Indian Desert occupies only a part of the state. Rajasthan is diagonally divided by the Aravalli mountain ranges into arid and semi-arid regions. The latter have a spectacular variety of highly diversified and unique yet fragile ecosystems comprising lush green fields, marshes, grasslands, rocky patches and hilly terrains, dense forests, the southern plateau, fresh water wetlands, and salt lakes. Apart from the floral richness, there is faunal abundance from fishes to mammals. In this volume, the various flagship and threatened species are described in the 24 chapters penned by top notch wildlife experts and academics. The world famous heronry, tiger reserves, wildlife sanctuaries and some threat-ridden biodiversity rich areas shall certainly draw the attention of readers from around the world.

Book Routledge Handbook of Heritage in Asia

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Heritage in Asia written by Patrick Daly and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook is the first major volume to examine the conservation of Asia’s culture and nature in relation to the wider social, political and economic forces shaping the region today. Throughout Asia rapid economic and social change means the region’s heritage is at once under threat and undergoing a revival as never before. As societies look forward, competing forces ensure they re-visit the past and the inherited, with the conservation of nature and culture now driven by the broader agendas of identity politics, tradition, revival, rapid development, environmentalism and sustainability. In response to these new and important trends, the twenty three accessible chapters here go beyond sector specific analyses to examine heritage in inter-disciplinary and critically engaged terms, encompassing the natural and the cultural, the tangible and intangible. Emerging environmentalisms, urban planning, identity politics, conflict memorialization, tourism and biodiversity are among the topics covered here. This path-breaking volume will be of particular interest to students and scholars working in the fields of heritage, tourism, archaeology, Asian studies, geography, anthropology, development, sociology, and cultural and postcolonial studies.
