This book was released on 2018-08-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference of Novel Approaches to The Control of Helminth Parasites of Livestock (NA) meetings has aimed to stimulate links between scientists and extension specialists and from developed, emerging and developing countries. The objective is to unite researchers that are starting to realize that helminth control could not be sustainable by the sole use of synthetic anthelmintics. Now, and although helminth infection of livestock remains a major worldwide issue for animal health, a number of alternative strategies have been proposed to alleviate their economic impact and to improve animal welfare. In 2016, the NA Conference was held in Belem, PA, Brazil with the support of the Brazilian College of Veterinary Parasitology, CBPV. The current monograph includes 15 manuscripts of the discussion papers submitted at the 8th NA Conference. These include, target treatment and Famacha method, interaction of feeding behavior and parasite infections, mapping resistant population by molecular and fecal techniques, ethnoveterinary and the use of plants, fungi and bacteria to control helminths, vaccines, new compounds, and the use of artificial intelligence to estimate parasite incidence.

Book Parasites of Cattle and Sheep

Download or read book Parasites of Cattle and Sheep written by Andrew B. Forbes and published by CABI. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding parasite biology and impact is essential when giving advice on parasite control in farm animals. In the first review devoted to parasites of domestic cattle and sheep alone, this book provides in-depth, focused advice which can be tailored to individual farms. It considers the impact of parasites, both as individual species and as co-infections, as well as epidemiological information, monitoring, and diagnostic procedures. Supported throughout by diagrams and photos to aid diagnosis, it also reviews the basis for control measures such as the responsible use of parasiticides, adaptive animal husbandry and other management practices.

Book excerpt: In a unique, visual approach to the depiction of parasite life cycles, this detailed atlas presents a clear, concise, and complete overview of the parasite/human host interrelationship. 75 life cycles include all the major protozoan and helminth pathogens of man with new and updated information on several organisms. The illustrations follow the route of infection from point of entry, through the developmental stages, to completion of the cycle as the parasite reinfects the next host. Precise biological anatomical and medical depiction provides reinforcement. Distinguished by its organization, continuity, and accuracy, this comprehensive work will be a valuable reference for students, clinicians and others interested in the field of parasitology.

Including clear, easy-to-find information on the distribution, life cycle, and importance of each parasite, Veterinary Clinical Parasitology offers more than 450 images to aid with diagnosis. The Eighth Edition includes a new chapter on immunologic and molecular diagnosis, increased coverage of ticks and new sections on identification of microfilariae and larvae in diagnostic samples. The new edition also features expanded information on quantitative egg counts, detection of anthelmintic resistance and identification of ruminant strongylid larvae. Additional improvements include many new images throughout the book, revised taxonomic information, a new layout featuring tabs by section to improve user-friendliness, and a companion website offering the images from the book in PowerPoint at www.wiley.com/go/zajac. Veterinary Clinical Parasitology is a highly practical benchside reference invaluable to clinicians, technicians, and students.

Book Pharmacological Potential of Selected Natural Compounds in the Control of Parasitic Diseases

Download or read book Pharmacological Potential of Selected Natural Compounds in the Control of Parasitic Diseases written by Gabriela Hrckova and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The natural world with a large number of terrestrial and marine plants and lower organisms is a great source of bioactive compounds historically used as remedies in various diseases. Within the last decade, such compounds became more attractive targets for pharmacologists and the pharmaceutical industry in drug development projects. This volume presents the pharmacological potential of chemically defined natural compounds obtained from plants, fungi, algae and cyanobacteria with antiparasitic activity, that have been tested against various endo-parasitic protozoan and helminth species. Additionally, the advantages of combined therapy using antiparasitic drugs and natural compounds with selected specific activity are reviewed and explained in the context of host pathology and immunosuppression induced by the parasites. The conclusions of this new book give suggestions for further non-empirical drug development and discuss perspectives of alternative approaches to therapy of parasitic diseases.
