This book was released on 1973 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the scarcity of fish parasite records in Kentucky, this study was undertaken to identify the helminth, leech and parasitic crustacean fauna of the common white sucker, Catostomus commersoni. This fish was chosen because it was a non-sport fish and also for its general availability in the Kentucky River system.

This book was released on 1994 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spotted sucker, Minytrema melanops, is a medium sized catostomid fish that ranges through much of central and eastern North America but is rare in Canada, known only from the drainages of Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair. This report summarizes new information on the species in Canada following its assignment as a vulnerable species in 1983. Information is included on the fish's geographic distribution, protection status, and population size and trends. Concludes with an evaluation of the future of the species in Canada. A list of collection localities is appended.

Download or read book Distribution and Ecology of Thoburnia Atripinnis Bailey the Blackfin Sucker Cypriniformes Catostomidae in the Upper Barren River Kentucky written by Garrett Keith Stillings and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The highly distinctive catostomid, Thoburnia atripinnis, blackfin sucker, is hypothesized to be a relict species related to T. hamiltoni, rustyside sucker, and T. rhothoeca, torrent sucker. The blackfin sucker is endemic to the priority conservation area of the Upper Barren River (UBR) drainage of Kentucky and Tennessee, spanning four counties in Kentucky. Due to its endemic distribution, low historic abundance and human induced impacts, the blackfin sucker is considered a "species of greatest conservation need" by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Current data on distribution and conservation need of blackfin suckers in the Upper Barren River is lacking, thus our specific objectives were to (1) identify current blackfin sucker populations in the UBR, Kentucky, (2) determine age and growth of blackfin suckers in Kentucky populations, (3) assess the fish community structure and biotic integrity of the UBR, (4) locate physical habitat alterations to assess any contributing cause of declining numbers of the species at historical locations, and (5) identify any relationships with other fishes of the Barren River system.
